Cleanskin Technical Data Sheet

CLEANSKIN
Multi-purpose sodium based cleaner for tartrates, color and organic soils
CHARACTERISTICS
Cleanskin was formulated in 2002 by AiRD chemistry in conjunction with the Australian wine industry. It is now
recognized as the benchmark product for one-process non-caustic cleaning. This proprietary cleaner can be used
in the winery to remove wine tartar, color materials, protein and organic soils. This multi-purpose cleaner for
stainless steel and associated materials is sodium carbonate based. Cleanskin also contains proprietary
percarbonates, chelation and sequestering aids, polysurfactants and a rinse-aid, thus eliminating the need for a
citric acid neutralizing rinse.
Cleanskin has a sister product Cleanskin-K which is a potassium based formulation.
Determine which member of the Cleanskin family you should use based on your waste water system
requirements (sodium or potassium).
Cleanskin is a 100% active, water soluble cleaner with no fillers.
Cleanskin contains no chlorine, phosphates or halogen based compounds.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
0.50-4.0 kg/100L (0.67-5.34 oz/gallon) of clean, potable/treated water.
Wine film with no/light tartar = 0.5-1.0 kg/100 L clean, potable/treated water.
Wine film with moderate/heavy tartar= 2.0- 4.0 kg/100 L clean, potable/treated water.
To optimize tartrate cleaning, particularly after using chilling to achieve potassium tartrate stabilization, you should
allow the very cold solids and the tank interior to return to ambient temperature before beginning your cleaning
regime. At this time the crystals are soft and are still in a state of hydration making cleaning easier. Avoid letting
the crystals dry onto the surface, this makes cleaning more challenging.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Water- Potable or treated water is always recommended when cleaning. The volume of water used is
determined on the basis of the surface area to be cleaned as well as the quantity of the soil present. Hard
water is more chemically demanding, therefore, you may require more Cleanskin.
Cleanskin is soluble in water to ~10%w/v.
Water Temperature- The cleaning solution temperature range for Cleanskin is 20-60°C (60-140°F). As the
temperature of the cleaning solution is increased the dosage of Cleanskin and the time for cleaning can be
reduced.
Mixing Directions- Chemical Insertion (powder into water) Method
Accurately prepare the quantities of water and Cleanskin. Fill vessel with clean, potable water, steadily
add the Cleanskin into the water while mixing. Mix until a consistent solution is obtained. Initially the
solution will be milky, but should clarify. Use the solution once clarified.
Cleanskin can be used for manual cleaning, Clean-In-Place Systems (CIP) or with foaming set-up.
Manual Cleaning Directions
 Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, prepare the aqueous solution of Cleanskin in a
portable container.
 Rinse the surface to be cleaned using warm water to remove all loose soil.
 Using your pre-designated cleaning instrument (brush, clean cloth or non-scratcher scourer) dip into
solution of Cleanskin and gently agitate on the surface to remove soil.
 Spray rinse the surface thoroughly and allow to dry.
ClP Directions
 Single pass (pressure) rinse the tank with warm water to remove any loose soil, and allow to drain.
 Prepare Cleanskin and transfer to tank.
 Connect all parts of the CIP system.
 Circulate the solution continually until all the surfaces are clean, or until the pH of the solution drops to
<pH8.0.
 If soil is still visible, repeat above steps with fresh solution.
 When tank is clean, drain the solution and conduct a single pass rinse with potable water to remove any
residual Cleanskin.
PRECAUTIONS
Read the MSDS before use every time and wear prescribed personal protective equipment.
