VIKING SPORTS
Soccer
Developmental soccer came a long way this season. Players have markedly improved their skills and on-field decision making.
Everyone turned up the effort as Coaches Adam Scholl, Pat Nipper, and Linda Tonin initiated twice per week practices. Both
teams are sporting strong winning records with impressive goals for versus goals against stats. The few losses have been close
games where Vikings fell short with numbers of players but never effort.
The JV and V teams had a great season as well, with many exciting goals. We appreciate Coach Bittner and his assistants for
keeping the teams motivated and improving. Go Vikings!
Home games were played on the Hampton Soccer fields near the community center. Thanks to the Hampton Soccer Club
administrators that worked closely with us to make sure we had no conflicts with their teams. Thanks to parents and family
members (many St. U alum sibs) who cheered at each and every game, rain cold, flurries and sun.
Banquet
The Sports Banquet held at LaRoche was a wonderful evening of awards and fun. Thanks to Colleen Ruefle, our Athletic Director
for arranging the evening and running our sports program all year! We sure clean up nicely, on and off the field!
SCOUTING
Troop 50225
The girls of Troop 50225 started spring off by making a road trip to Camp Lutherlyn, in Prospect. They participated in the Fun
Patch Program and earned the following patches; Outdoor Living, Cooking, and Hiking. The troop had a great time together;
learning, cooking, building and hiking. A day trip any Scout would enjoy!
In keeping with the Camping theme, the girls will be heading out to Camp Singing Hills for four days the end of June. The girls will
earn their Camper, First Aid and Simple Meal Badge. The girls will learn about First Aid, Emergency Shelters, Basic Survival while
having fun playing in the pool, shooting archery, camp fires, games and hanging out together.
The girls will leave for a very special camping trip in August to Camp Redwing. This camp will be extra fun, in that the girls will be
spending time with their Dads. Camp Me and My Guy will be a three day outing where the girls will ride horses with their Dads,
dance, swim, and that’s just for starters. Most importantly, they will create priceless memories with “their special guy.”
We had a wonderful school year with our girls and look forward to camping this
summer! –Amy Valenty and Jada Donato
Confirmation Service Project
Completed right here at St. Ursula
Eighth grader Julia S. has always enjoyed art and making different art projects. When it came time for choosing her confirmation
service project this year, Julia was looking for something where she could use her talents and help at the same time. Knowing that
Julia was good at creating things, last summer, Sr. Joanita asked Julia to create a "back to school" bulletin board for the lobby of
St. Ursula School. After completing that board, Julia decided to create a new bulletin board each month throughout the school
year as her confirmation service project.
Lale Virostek, coordinator of Faith Formation at St. Ursula of explained how this project fit into the confirmation service
requirement, "We include a service component for Confirmation to help the students realize our faith is active. Serving others in
any capacity is to show Christ's love. We are all given gifts and talents and asked not to hide them but to let them shine for all to
see. Julia making the bulletin boards is a good example of that. The quotes made Scripture seem every day, and the time it took to
put them up and take them down was a personal sacrifice of her free time. She helped Christ to speak to every person who saw
the board."
Julia was able to work on the bulletin board after school, or would occasionally come in on the weekend. Sometimes, Sr. Joanita
would suggest a theme for Julia, or with an approaching holiday it was easy to choose a theme, but occasionally Julia would just
come up with an idea-- like her final board which will be up in May and June where Julia creates a "We are Vikings" board to
celebrate the fun school spirit of St. Ursula.
"I liked making the bulletin boards, and it was a good way to help St. Ursula. Sometimes the teachers at the school would
comment on how the bulletin board looked nice each month," said Julia when asked about the project.
