rd Century Mission Creating Pathways to the 3 Connect – University of Cincinnati Research Hub Driving Innovation through Advanced Knowledge Management E Profiles Clusters Facilities Industry Goal For Researchers For Institutions & Industry To foster collaboration by creating a dynamic environment that supports the integration of system driven, faculty maintained research information into a consolidated environment that provides robust searching, facilitates collaboration and provides reporting across the research enterprise to: Connect - UC Research Hub, provides a framework and set of services that support researchers, streamline processes and provide linkages with industry and other researchers. Too often researchers are asked to provide the same information multiple times and in multiple formats. The directory provides a means of ensuring that we: Connect – UC Research Hub, provides a framework that also supports institutions & Industry. The hub provides the ability to streamline processes and aggregate data in multiple ways and for multiple purposes through the click of a button. • • Institution wide profiles Grants Management Dashboard Annual reporting at multiple levels (institution wide, unit level, individual level) Automation of Annual Review Process Automation of reappointment and promotion process Trend analysis – grants, protocols, patents, publications Creation of Research Clusters Promotion of facilities and services for use by industry Ability to provide multi location / multi campus cross organizational collaboration Reporting for Accreditation purposes • • • • Facilitate easy access to resources for industry Enable personalized views and customizable searches Foster interdisciplinary participation with industry Promote collaboration between industry and academia History The University of Cincinnati developed and implemented a tool that automatically compiles information and populates faculty expertise profiles, services, facilities and other resources. The system incudes rich and relevant information overcoming the limitations of products which rely primarily on manual entry. When developing the Research Hub, we focused on creating an integrated environment that leverages modern frameworks to crate a rich and robust large data environment. The development of a dynamic structure to define data elements, map data elements to existing data sources, show and hide data, filter & sort data, generate reports and export data in various formats created a rich framework for searching and managing experts, facilities, services, grants, protocols and more when launched in 2013. Key Features Institution Up to date and accurate profile information from multiple sources Automation of data integration (limiting need for manual input) Ability to provide easy and robust searching Admin Integration with external data sources Aggregation of information into meaningful reports Aggregation of information across affiliate institutions Ability to dynamically define data elements Rich API layer that supports dynamic inputs and outputs Ability to generate and store biosketches Integration with external systems to drive web profiles, annual reviews, reappointment processes, etc. Ability for researchers to control visibility of specific elements within their profile. Automate as much as possible Provide multiple uses for the data collected (single input multiple outputs) Researchers can use the directory for the following: Generation of web based CVs Integration of profile data into existing websites (real-time) Generation of NIH and NSF Biosketches Annual Reviews Grant Submissions Collaborator Search Core Facility Search Promotion and Searching for Services Connecting seekers (industry) and solution providers (researchers) Examples of uses for institutions and industry include:
