This half-term’s topic is: The Olympics Maths English Science Year 3 Measure, compare, add and subtract: lengths. Add and subtract amounts of money to give change, using both £ and p in practical contexts. Interpret and present data using bar charts, pictograms and tables. Solve one-step and twostep questions Year 4 Convert between different units of measure. Calculate different measures including money in pounds and pence. Interpret and present discrete data using graphs. Add and subtract numbers with up to 4 digits (including decimal tenths and hundredths) We will focus on core skills (reading, grammar and writing) through a range of different writing genres: Limericks and Kennings Read a variety of different limerick and kennings. Identify the different poem structures. Write our own Limericks and Kennings. Myths and Legends Read a variety of Greek Myths. Explore the different themes within the stories. Create character descriptions based on showing not telling. Write our own myths using the myth format Check and edit work. Identify that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition; they get nutrition from what they eat. Identify that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. Animals / Humans What is a food chain? Why is the skeleton so important? History/ Geography Art History focus on The Greek Olympics and how the Olympics are different today Geography focus on the different countries around the world taking part in the Olympics. What, when and where were the first Olympics? Who started the modern Olympic games? Why do we have Olympic rings Importance of the Olympic torch? What is the difference between the Paralympics and Olympics? Where has the Olympics taken place? Where could future Olympics take place and why? Research into Greek pottery with a focus of the Olympics. Observe Greek pottery and make sketches of the different aspects of the pottery. Use books to record sketches and use them to revisit ideas. Use clay to create a piece of Greek pottery. Use tools to manipulate a design into the pottery. (Olympic theme) Paint and decorate the Greek pottery. ICT - using scratch. Understand that a program is an instruction sequence written in a programming language designed to perform a specific task. Know that problems/tasks can be solved efficiently by decomposition. Know that program instructions can be refined to improve both accuracy and efficiency of the program. Understand that named procedures can be included within other sets of instructions, Know that programming languages are needed to create games and simulations of physical systems.
