 Mandarin proficiency screening will take place after the lottery to determine
proficiency level. Jing Mei office will contact you for an appointment. Screening will
take about 10 minutes. We will use the result to create balanced classrooms.

*Definition of Proficiency: Students will be able to use Mandarin expressions with reasonable ease and show
emerging signs of using Mandarin to communicate new ideas; create phrases or sentences successfully and
attempt to sustain conversation; understand simple questions, statements and commands in familiar topic
areas and new sentences with strong contextual support; use vocabulary centering on basic objects, places,
and common kinship terms in predictable topic areas.
If you are unsure of your child’s proficiency status call the Jing Mei office to schedule a proficiency
screening. You will be able to submit your application online thereafter.
