The Troybery Award was established by the Troy School District Middle School Media
Specialists in 2000. It was felt that students should have a say in what books should
earn awards during a publication year. Many awards are given to young adult books by
adults and/or librarians; this award gives students a chance to voice their opinion. Each
year ten books are nominated for consideration. Students who read three or more of
the nominated titles are invited to cast a ballot for the best book of the year. One
winner and three honor books are selected each year.
