Principal’s Corner
It is great to be back at school. Over the last week, many
families joined our text alert system. This is the best way to get
information about school cancelation. While it is never an easy
decision to cancel school, we always want to make sure our Holy
Rosary Families are safe. If you haven't joined our text alert, now is
the perfect time to do so.
As we stated in the flier that went home, on Facebook, and on
our text alert, we will not be rescheduling our Christmas Program.
We have tried to have it twice. We will look forward to a great
program next year.
Our town hall meeting that was scheduled for Monday,
January 9th at noon with be rescheduled for Friday, January 27th at
noon. All families are invited. We look forward to hearing from you.
Please remember that our parent to parent meeting about the
transition from 6th to 7th grade will be tonight at 6:30. Parents will
be sharing their experience about their children going from 6th grade
at Holy Rosary to 7th grade in a public school. We hope to be able to
answer any questions you may have about your children going into
public school.
Thank you,
Carina VanPelt

Family Faith Formation
“You shall not kill.” Sounds simple enough. But
there is more to the fifth commandment than meets the
eye. Jesus said, “Everyone who is angry with his
brother is liable to the judgment.” Others argue that
sometimes it is necessary or even merciful to take a
life.
The fundamental principles regarding this
commandment are Human life is sacred and God
alone is the Lord of life from its beginning to its end.
Right relationship with God and our neighbor requires
us to uphold and respect human life in all its
conditions and stages of development. The inherent
dignity of every human being derives from its creation
by God in His image and likeness. No one has the
right to directly destroy an innocent human being.
Ever. Everyone must avoid anger, hatred, and
vengeance, turn the other cheek,” and love their
enemies.
The following are always to be avoided:
direct intentional killing, unnecessarily exposing
someone to mortal danger, refusing to assist a person
in danger, procuring or performing abortion,
production of embryos for exploitation, genetic
manipulation to produce/avoid specific qualities in a
baby, euthanasia (mercy-killing), suicide, and
excessive use/abuse of food, drugs, and alcohol.
Terrorism, torture and mutilation are gravely wrong.
Conversely, the following are required:
defense of one’s own life and the lives of those
dependent on him, non-violent ways of protecting
society from aggressors when possible, protection and
nurturing of human life from the moment of
conception, promotion of legislation that respects the
right to life and health of all people, peaceful
resolution to conflict and avoidance of war, care and
support of the sick, handicapped, suffering and dying.
Moral guidelines must be followed in the areas of
science and technology that pertain to the human
person. In providing security and defense for its
people, nations must adhere to “just war” principles.
As we protect our physical lives, we must
also foster the moral lives of ourselves and others,
especially those for whom we are responsible. We
must guide our children, protect them from moral
danger, and provide good example. Scandal is an
attitude or behavior that leads another to do evil. We
must avoid giving scandal through our words, actions,
or omissions.
There is so much more in the Catechism! See
paragraphs 2258-2330.
