Meetings are every other Tuesday listen for announcements Three weeks ago the students of Thorne dyed shirts pink and then worn them outside for breast cancer and other cancer awareness. We linked with Harmony to make a long chain of people. The weather was not kind to us and we froze out there, but we stay out there! The press wrote and article in their paper with some great pictures! Others took videos and pictures to remember our day of pink. T ogether, we made our community more aware of cancer and raised money for the cause. This proves that together we can make changes. Plus, everyone had fun! It was a great day for Thorne. Our grand total of money raised by both Harmony and Thorne is $1836.00!! ~Poetry Page~ The Lion’s Roar is looking for your poems to publish in our next paper! Submit your entries to Brianna K. through Mrs. Kelly in room 237! Maybe your poem will be in the next paper! PAGE 2 T HE LI O N’ S R OA R Animal Corner by Kassandra Uribazo Rottweilers and Pitbulls are the most misunderstood breeds of dog in the world. Some cities and states don’t even allow people to own these breeds! It’s ridiculous how people believe that these two breeds are dangerous because in the movies, they are played as vicious dogs. People shouldn’t be afraid of these dogs, for example, no city or state has ever banned a golden retriever, and that’s because those breeds don’t have the power or strength of a Rottweiler. Even a Pitbull can’t top the power of a Rottweiler. Many people raise Rottweilers to be loving, caring, kind, and this breed is very intelligent. You can train a Rottweiler to do almost anything, and these breeds were actually made for herding and for pulling heavy loads of things, they were never here to bite anyone or to be harmful. The people that raise them control how they will act in the future. Even though this breed is a guarding breed, that doesn’t mean that they will bite anyone they don’t know. You always have to socialize any dog at a young age, so that they won’t be scared or aggressive towards strangers or other dogs. These dogs will ensure that you’re safe, so if you’re home alone, and someone tries to break in, you won’t have to worry if you have a Rottweiler, they will do anything to save you, even risk their life. They will bite the criminal with their 330 pounds of jaw power, and they won’t let go, unless you trained them to. Don’t be afraid of that jaw power though, they will never use that towards anyone, except a person trying to harm its owner. You can trust this breed around anyone, even babies too. These breeds are mostly playful and harmless. I own one and she has never acted aggressive towards anyone. She loves it when people come over and especially when they play with her. She is the kindest pet out of the four dogs. She’s like a gentle giant, even when the male Chihuahua growls at her, she would get scared and back away, he even bites her and she never has tried to bite back. I recommend this breed to basically anyone, as long as you have lots of space for it to exercise. Just try to meet one, and then you will fall in love. They are the most beautiful and wonderful types of dog I’ve ever seen, and they should be known for that. The team had several wins, two loses, and three ties. Since day one, Mrs. Hallard knew she had her hands full. Everyone worked great together. Our eighth grade girls were amazing players out on the field. The current seventh grade girls will have to work twice as hard to compete with them next year. Mrs. Hallard was the best coach a player could have. Everyone would always say she was mean because she yelled a lot, but she was just trying to help us do our best and work harder. The whole team would like to thank her for helping them become better players and work like a team. The 8th grade girls are Emily Allen, Julia Aleo, Samantha Bozarth, Danielle Chicola, Sara Cruz, Lauren Dand, Eden Edelson, Mackenzie Gross, Sarah Palmer, Alexis Seitz, and Danielle Sparano The 7th grade girls are Delilah Andrusko, Kaitlyn Del Rio, Jamie Golubinski, Jonela Grimaldi, Hailee Hallard, Kaylah Igarta, Megan Kelly, Emily Kernan, Stephanie Kinsella, and Gillian Svenson November is National Pomegranate Month By Delilah Andrusko November is National Pomegranate Month. The seeds of a pomegranate enhance the immune system and keep blood lipid healthy. Research has shown that the pomegranate fruit extract has been good for preventing and fighting certain forms of cancer. In Greek mythology, the pomegranate was known as the “fruit of death.” It was the fruit that Persephone ate while in the underworld with Hades. He offered her food and she accepted. She ate four pomegranate seeds and was then trapped in Hades for four months for eating the four seeds. Her mother, Demeter, was so angry at this she killed off all things that grow. This explains why we have a fall and winter. When Persephone is allowed to return to her mother, the flowers begin to grow and we have spring and summer. Try the seeds of a pomegranate while they are still in the stores! Secret Sara is Interview with Nicole, Have you hear d of a Secret Sara? Dolphin Tale Movie Review By Stefanie Saginor This movie is about an amazing true story about a brave dolphin named Winter who loses her tale in a crab trap and how she is helped by some amazing people. This movie is rated PG and falls under the movie categories of drama, kids, and family. This dolphin is still alive today at Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida. Us magazine calls it “crazy enough.” There is even a website you can visit www.seewinter.com. I give this movie four stars! It is a “must see” family movie! 1. Fresh and Fabulous Fashions By J-ME SORRENTINO This season, as always, there are new trends.... how to wear your hair and how to dress! If you’re on a budget or just looking for some new items for your wardrobe, you might want to look at some of these ideas. Remember to vary in color and not limit yourself to the same type of shirt or pair of jeans! Owls are totally in right now... necklaces, rings, and even sweaters. If I were you, I’d get these now! Jeans: a nice pair of jeans for those cold days will do the trick. A great place for jeans that will last the season and look great for under $15 is Forever 21! Their jeans last the year and are super comfy. They’re sure to please. Animal prints: animal print tops are really fun. They are fun patterns and designs and look great on and are even good to layer. Cardigans: a colored cardigan is sure to look great on the chilly days instead of just a boring, dated sweat shirt! Try a cardigan in colors like blue, red and grey... they look really nice on. Skirts: sometimes to change up your look you need a floral or colored skirt. A skirt with a owl top or a nice cardigan will look adorable in the fall. Tribal pattern tops: these tops are a great way to have a cool design while looking great... you can get cool tribal colors that you normally can’t find very often which will help you with varying your colors. Shoes: this year UGG boots are so out... we have been wearing them for the past three years and they’re getting old. Instead try Moccasins, Combat boots, or some to-the-knee boots in a color that is often shown in your wardrobe. T-shirts: I absolutely hate t-shirts! I see many girls wearing them all the time. Occasionally they are okay but for every day... No! If you’re going to wear a t-shirt layer it with a cardigan; it looks much nicer and not as boring! Accessories: feather earrings ,hoops, or studs dress up your outfit...long necklaces with pearls or feathers are nice too. Animal rings are cute for this season. Remember not to over accessorize. Follow these steps and you’re sure to get some positive reactions and you’ll feel better about yourself too!!
