STATEMENT ON DOMA DECISION
Defense of Marriage Act Deemed Unconstitutional By U.S.
Supreme Court
YORK, PA - 6/26/13 - The Democratic Party of York County released the following statement today
regarding the United States Supreme Court decision on the Defense of Marriage Act:
Today is a landmark and historic day in the fight for equality in the United States. Today the Supreme
Court deemed the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. This decision was fair, just and 100%
accurate.
By striking down DOMA, the Supreme Court has allowed for thousands of LGTB Americans to be
eligible for federal benefits and to share in the same recognitions as straight, married couples. This is
a monumental decision and the Democratic Party of York County commends the Supreme Court on
making the right decision today.
In June 2012, the Democratic Party of York County Committee unanimously passed a resolution in
favor of marriage equality. The resolution stated "the Democratic Party of York County will actively
support and advocate on behalf of marriage equality and equal rights for all regardless of sexual
orientation."
The mission of the Democratic Party of York County is to elect quality Democrats, to promote the
values of the Democratic Party, and to improve the quality of life for all York County residents.
