AP Report Instructions
Mr. Lister
1. Students will complete a (5-7) page research paper on a selected ________________ related
topic. The paper should be completed in MLA format including internal citations. Please note
the title page and the work-cited page do not count toward the five pages.
2. The paper should be formatted in the following manner:
a. Times New Roman font
b. 12 point font size
c. Black ink on white paper
d. Double Spaced – this includes the work cited page
e. One staple in the upper left hand corner (no folders)
f. Pictures, graphs, and other visuals should be attached as an appendix and not
part of the five pages.
h. A header listing your last name and page numbers should be included
(ex: Lister 2)
i. Title Page: The title page should include the title of your report centered in the
middle of the page. On the bottom of the title page, also centered, you should list
your name and period.
3. Topic Proposal, Research Questions, and Annotated Bibliography – Due:
a. Students will submit a typed topic proposal. The topic proposal should include a few
sentences describing the topic you plan to research.
b. Please include 5 to 10 research questions you plan to investigate as part of your topic.
c. The topic proposal will include a MLA styled bibliography. A minimum of five
sources must be included on the bibliography. Sources should be of high quality and
reliable.
-The bibliography must be annotated. This will require you to briefly summarize each
source and describe how each source will assist you in answering your research
questions.
-Students are required to use at least one source each from ABC-CLIO and JSTOR
databases. These databases are both accessible from the Lower Dauphin High School
Library web page. While not required, students are encouraged to utilize print resources
including books and reference works. If a print resource is not available at the high
school library, students should consider using Inter-Library Loan to access high quality
print resources from other libraries.
d. The Topic Proposal should follow all requirements under point 2.
4. Alphanumeric Outline and Thesis I – Due: __________________________
a. Students will submit a formal alphanumeric outline. The outline will depict the
organization of the report. The outline needs to be a minimum of 2 pages.
b. Students will type a thesis paragraph that should be a minimum of six sentences. The
thesis should introduce the argument for your paper. You should introduce the time
period and topic you will be discussing. The body sentences of your thesis should
establish the path of your paper. (Please place at the start of you outline)

c. All requirements under point number two should be followed.
5. Alphanumeric Outline and Thesis II – Due: __________________________
a. Students will submit a formal alphanumeric outline. The outline will depict the
organization of the report. The outline needs to be a minimum of 4 pages.
b. Students will type a thesis paragraph that should be a minimum of six sentences. The
thesis should introduce the argument for your paper. You should introduce the time
period and topic you will be discussing. The body sentences of your thesis should
establish the path of your paper. (Please place at the start of you outline)
c. All requirements under point number two should be followed.
6. Final Paper – Due: ____________________________________
a. Submit a final copy in paper format.
b. No late assignments will be accepted. You must have an excused absence to submit the
paper late. If you are taking an educational trip, you must submit the paper prior to
leaving.
c. Your final paper must include internal citations. Internal citations must be completed
along with the bibliography in the correct format. Failure to include internal citations will
result in a failing grade.
7. Point value and due dates
