James K. Polk - Nashua School District

Polk was a very accessible man. You
could ask him a lot and he would answer
with no problem.
Polk was born in north Carolina on
November 2,1795. He grew up there
in Mecklenburg County.
Polk requested and received a declaration of war
to send troops to Mexico City in September
1847.
Polk was a part of the democratic party.
James went to school at the university of
North Carolina. He graduated in the year of
1818.
He was the first one to have his picture
taken while he was in office.
James got elected to be the governor of
Tennessee in 1839.
James had a wife but no kids. His wife's name was Sarah (Childress) Polk.
They got married in 1824. and she was one of the main helpers that got him
through his political career. His main family was politics, and business life.
James K. Polk was a very good president. Some people say he
was to strong as a leader. He had a very good understanding of
politics and the economical world.
When Jackson won the white house in1828. James proved to
be his best ally in congress.
To most people his name his just James Polk or James K.
Polk. A lot of people do not know that his middle name is Knox.
Once James K. Polk graduated from the University of North
Carolina he became a lawyer. He was a lawyer for several
years.
He was the originator of the mullet. He was the
first one to have a mullet in office.
Polk had never had kids.
Both James K. Polk and his Whig opponent Henry
Clay both owned slaves. James captured Oregon
from the British.
James K. Polk's whole life was based on politics. He was always into it
even as a kid.
James K. Polk was not very good at small talk like his wife. But he
gave very good speech's and had very good long conversations
with people.
James K Polk was Presbyterian. He would only go to church
when either his mom made him or his wife did. When they
didn’t he wouldn’t worry about it.
James K. Polk was a very powerful leader. He had many
followers, but those who didn’t follow him thought he was too
strong to be in office.
James K. Polk sent troops down to Mexico City and other places to
capture them. He had many captures while he was in office.
While james was in office he added much more territory.
Including Utah. He claimed about 11 new states for the
United States.
While Polk was governor of Tennessee, he attempted to introduce
banking reforms. He left office for the governorship in 1839.however the
state and the nation were in a crisis. Because of Jacksons banking and
monetary policies.
James K Polk was a extreme workaholic. He would stay up night after
night to work on things.
When James was studying to become a lawyer, he studied at Felix
Grundy. He later in life became a U.S. senator and attorney general
at the Martin Van Buren administration.
James K Polk's nickname was Young Hickory. Since he strongly
supported all of Jacksons initiatives, that is why all of his colleagues
called him that.
James K. Polk's zodiac symbol was Scorpio. His
birthday was November 2,1795
