Sharecare, American Well® and Dr. Oz Team Up to Give 5,000

Sharecare, American Well® and Dr. Oz Team Up to Give
5,000 People a Free Doctor’s Appointment
ATLANTA/BOSTON, April 9, 2015 – Sharecare, a comprehensive online health and
wellness engagement platform, and Amwell, the leading telehealth service, are
teaming up with The Dr. Oz Show to provide 5,000 people with a free doctor’s
appointment.1 Powered by the companies’ award-winning apps, AskMD and Amwell,
this collaboration – which debuts on today’s new episode of The Dr. Oz Show –
provides consumers with powerful decision-support to find out what might be
bothering them and, in minutes, connects them with a doctor via live video chat
directly from their smartphone or computer.
“Sharecare’s mission is to help you on every point in your health journey, from the
exam room to the living room – and now, through our partnership with American
Well, we’re bringing the exam room to your living room - or wherever you might be
when you need to talk to a doctor,” said Dr. Mehmet Oz. “Every day, we hear from
viewers who have improved their lives through something they have seen on The
Dr. Oz Show, and the one-two punch of AskMD and Amwell will be no exception. I
consider it a privilege to empower our viewers to take control of their health, and
help them save precious time and money in the process.”
Sharecare launched AskMD in December 2013, utilizing guided search and decisionsupport technology to help consumers find out what might be wrong and what they
can do about it. While AskMD includes functionality to help consumers connect with
medical professionals near them, this latest collaboration with Amwell and The Dr.
Oz Show takes telemedicine a step further by helping people triage their health
problem and giving them healthcare on-demand.
“A physician has an average of only seven minutes to spend with a patient in the
office, and the bulk of that time is spent trying to figure out what’s wrong – when
both the doctor and patient would prefer to get down to the business of fixing the
problem,” said Ido Schoenberg, MD, Chairman and CEO of American Well.
“Combining the power of AskMD and Amwell not only streamlines that process, but
provides the ultimate in convenience for the consumer without sacrificing quality of
care.”
To start your free telemedicine session, go to AskMD – either on the web, the App
Store or Google Play – and start an AskMD consultation to find out more about what
could be causing your chief complaint. Once you complete the AskMD consultation,
you’ll be presented with a summary of your results and the option to click to talk to a
doctor. You’ll then be sent to Amwell, where you can select a doctor for your
telemedicine session, and verify whether or not you’re willing to share your AskMD
consultation summary with them in an effort to better inform your session. From here,
if you aren’t already registered as an Amwell user, you’ll complete a brief registration
process before your live video chat with the doctor begins.
1 The clinicians who provide services on Amwell currently operate in 45 states + DC. They do not
offer service in AK, AL, AR, LA, and TX, and offer visits, but not prescriptions in CO, ID, IN, NH, NJ, TN.
