It warms our hearts (and bellies) to be appreciated in such a delicious way! Earth Day is April 22nd, but we’ll be celebrating our Earth during the entire month of April at Cole School! Each Tuesday will be a Trashless Tuesday where 4/07 - Report Cards go home students and staff will try to eat snacks and lunches that don’t generate trash - think fresh fruits and vegetables, reusable bags and lunch boxes, and real cloth napkins when packing lunches. Each Wednesday will be a Paperless Wednesday where teachers and students will try to teach and learn without the use of paper. It will be a challenge, but we’re up for it! To extend this celebration and to include our larger community, we would ask families to try to walk or bike to school whenever possible during the month and turn off cars when waiting in the pick up line. Stay tuned for more information as we approach the month of April! 4/07 - Gr. 4 MCAS ELA 1 The placement process for next school year is just beginning. Parent input forms (blue sheets) will be sent home on Friday, March 31st. Please feel free to use this form to share any information that you’d like us to consider when placing your child. Please note that we will not honor any teacher requests. In addition, we will consider all parent input but can not guarantee any placements based on that information. We would ask you to remember that we need to place 470 students and spend a great deal of time with this process so that we thoughtfully place each student to the best of our ability. MCAS testing begins on Tuesday, April 4th. No visitors will be allowed in the building on MCAS testing days. Let’s celebrate the Red Sox Opening Day by wearing our Red Sox gear on April 3rd. !1 Eliza Burns, Principal Grace F. Cole Elementary School March 24, 2017 COMMUNITY NEWS Donations needed for Cradles to Crayons Molly Castle, an 8th grader at Norwell Middle School is facilitating a town-wide collection as part of a Spring Service project through Project 351. Molly is Norwell’s 2017 Ambassador to Project 351, a statewide youthdriven service organization that convenes an 8th grader from every community in Massachusetts for a year of personal development and service opportunities. She is joining 8th graders from Massachusetts’s 351 communities in Spring Service by collecting clothing and shoes for Cradles to Crayons, an organization that provides needed items to children from birth to age 12. She will be collecting items from March 27th – April 7th. There will be collection boxes in every Norwell school where items can be dropped off. As part of her service, Molly has been challenged to bring the awareness of childhood poverty and the joy of service to her whole community. To do that, Molly invites the entire town of Norwell to “Rock Some Socks!” on Wednesday, April 5th by wearing some crazy socks and donating new socks to the Cradles to Crayons clothing drive. It will be a reminder that 305,000+ kids, aged 12 years and under, are right now, living in Massachusetts in low income situations. Cradles to Crayons can only accept donations of brand-new socks, so they are a difficult item to get donated. Molly has already kicked off her service by purchasing 100 pairs of kids socks. She challenges Norwell to join her in seeing just how many pairs this generous town can donate. From students young and old, to teachers, administrators, parents and others, we can all do good and make a change! For more info please go to fb.me/mmcgivesback, project351.com, and cradlestocrayons.org. Donations of socks and clothing can be dropped off at any school and 249 South Street. You are invited!
