Leader:
On this third Sunday of Advent, as we reflect on the coming of Jesus Christ,
we light the candle of joy.
When Christ comes into our lives, He brings the fullness of joy.
He anoints our hearts with the oil of gladness. (Isaiah 61:3)
When Jesus was born, the angels said that His coming was good news of great joy for all people. (Luke 2:10)
People:
Because Christ has come to us, our lives can be filled with God’s joy.
We remember Christ’s teachings, that the joy of Christ may be in us,
and that our joy in Christ may be complete.
Congregational Response “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” (vs. 1) No. 196
Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus, born to set thy people free; from our
fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee. Israel's strength
and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art; dear desire of every
nation, joy of every longing heart.

That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appears.
Rejoice! rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
Verse 4: O come, O come thou Lord of might, who to thy tribes, on
Sinai’s height, in ancient time didst give the law in cloud and majesty, and awe. Rejoice! rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
Chorus: Rejoice! rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
During the last verse, children are invited to come forward for Children’s Time.
At the end of Children's Time,
the acolytes will hand out Children's worship folders.

Congregational Response Dr. Burt Palmer
“Away in a Manger”
(vs. 1) No. 217
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his
sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
Prayer Concerns Pastoral Prayer Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and
the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
