What`s My Number Final (2)

Math Moments and Home Made Games
What’s My Number?
Grades K-3
You will Need: Beads on a string as shown (optional)
How to Play:
In this game, you think of a mystery number within a
certain range, such as 1-20 or 1-100. Challenge your
child to figure out the mystery number by asking as
few questions as possible.
Encourage them to ask questions such as “Is it bigger
than ___?” “Is it smaller than ____?” Tell them you
will only answer questions with a “yes” or “no”
response.
Keep track of the number of questions they ask and
challenge them to try to keep the number of questions
as low as possible.
It is really helpful for children to have a number line
like the one shown. The number line helps them
visualize the quantities they are talking about. Your
child might also enjoy and learn from making the
number line.

could be used if
you were playing
with numbers
from 1-20. Make
one that goes to
100 if you are
playing with
numbers from 1100.
Ideas for Talking With Your Child…
• What questions were most helpful?
• How might you use this number line to keep
track of what you are finding out?
(You can give your child clothespins to keep
track of the area of the line they know the
number must be in.)
• Understanding relationships between the quantities from one to
one hundred.
• Understanding that a quantity includes all the quantities below it in
the counting sequence.
• Understanding that each unit within a quantity has the same value.
