The venue (County Showground) can also be reached via the A34 and A51. 5 RULES AND REGULATIONS for the HOUND ASSOCIATION’S CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW to be held at the COUNTY SHOWGROUND, WESTON RD., STAFFORD on SATURDAY, 1st AUGUST, 2015 THIS SHOW IS OPEN TO ALL 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 The Show will open at 8.00 a.m. Dogs will be received until 12.30 p.m. after which no dogs may be received except under exceptional and unforseen circumstances and by special permission of the Show Management. Judging will commence at 9.00 a.m. Exhibits may be removed from the show after their judging has been completed. Exhibits may not be removed any earlier unless by written order of the Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Practitioner, or of the Show Management and then only in very exceptional and unforseen circumstances which must be reported to the Kennel Club.The Show will close half an hour after all judging has been completed by which time dogs must be removed. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden. Best Puppy in Show: From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information). Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same Show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best of Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Best of Breed, Reserve Best in Group or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it will also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively. (a) Championship Shows Judged on the Group System. (1) Best Puppy in Breed. A Best Puppy must be declared in each breed from puppies entered in the breed classes. (2) Best Puppy in Group. From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information). Best Puppy in Group and subsequent Group placings must be selected from: (a) Those puppies declared Best Puppy in Breed provided that they are unbeaten by any other puppy. (b) The puppy declared Best Puppy from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each group or on each day provided it is unbeaten by any other puppy. (3) Best Puppy in Show must be selected from the Best Puppy in Group winners provided they are unbeaten by any other puppy. (b) Withdrawal from Competition. Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes and Best Puppy in Breed, prior to the competition for Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in 6 12 13 14 15 order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Puppies may be withdrawn from Any Variety classes when judged before Breed classes. (c) Proviso. For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog. Best in Show: From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information) The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at the same Show. Definition of a Category 3 Breed. A breed from time to time designated by the General Committee as requiring particular monitoring by reason of visible condition(s) which may cause health or welfare concerns. The list of designated Category 3 Breeds is kept under regular review. (a) Shows Judged on the Group System (Definition: Shows judged on the Group system include classes for breeds within more than one Group, as defined in Kennel Club Regulation B(A); and requires a judge to declare a Best of each Group after which the exhibits so declared will compete for the award of Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show). (1) Best of Breed Where a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared but only from those dogs which have received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are provided for each sex of a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared. NOTE: The Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified award relevant to a High Profile Breed will not be confirmed until the dog has passed an examination by the General and Group Championship Show Veterinary Surgeon. (2) Best of Group. From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information). Best of Group and subsequent group placings must be selected from: (a) The Best of Breed winners in each Group provided that they are unbeaten winning dogs. (b) The best unbeaten winning dog from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on each day. NOTE: The dog declared Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified from a breed designated by the Kennel Club as a High Profile Breed is not eligible to compete in the Group competition unless it has passed an examination by the Show’s Veterinary Surgeon. If the dog fails to pass the examination it is ineligible to compete in the relevant Group. (3) Best in Show. From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information). Best in Show must be selected from the Best of Group winners provided they are unbeaten. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the remaining Group winners following the selection of Best in Show. (b) Withdrawal from Other Competition. Dogs which become eligible for Best of Group and Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition (other than Breed Classes and Best of Breed) prior to the competition for Best of Group or Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best of Group or Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes. (c) Proviso. For the purposes of this Regulation dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs. Exhibits will not be admitted to Group or Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) — Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 7 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. Dogs in Cars on Hot Days: Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at Kennel Club licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade — take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK, FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Not For Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. The Show will be held under the Rules and Show Regulations of the Kennel Club. All hounds must be registered at the Kennel Club before the Show. All entries must be made on or before Monday, 15th June, 2015 (postmark). The entrance fee must be forwarded to the Secretary with the entry forms, or the entry will not be accepted. Each exhibitor must use a separate entry form. No late entries will be accepted. Entries may be made online up to 12 noon on Monday 22nd June 2015 at www.dog.biz. There will be no benching fee. Should any of the judges be prevented from fulfilling their engagements, the Committee reserve to themselves the right of appointing other judges to act. Exhibitors will in that case be at liberty to withdraw from competition, but no entry fees will be returned. (Vide Kennel Club Show Regulations). The Judges will be instructed and empowered to withhold the prize or prizes in any class, if, in their opinion the hound or hounds do not possess sufficient merit. Judges are not empowered to award prizes beyond those offered in the Schedule of prizes. Any such award shall not have any value or count as a win, except the consent of the Secretary be first obtained in writing. (Vide Kennel Club Show Regulation 22 (d)). No animal other than a dog duly entered at the Show will be allowed in the precincts of the Show during its continuance. All Rules and Regulations, or definitions or instructions of the nature of Rules and Regulations, printed for convenience in other parts of the Schedule shall be deemed to be the Regulations of the Committee and shall have the same effect as if they formed part of these Regulations. The Committee will not be in any way responsible for any claims by exhibitors for any loss of valuables. In view of the pressure of work at the time of entries closing, entries cannot be acknowledged by return of post unless an addressed card accompanies the entry form. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the hounds sent for exhibition, and for any other property entrusted to them, but it must be distinctly understood by exhibitors and purchasers of hounds that the Committee will not be responsible for the loss, detention of, or damage to any hounds or other property or for injuries to any person, whether arising from accident or other causes whatever, or for any act of omission of themselves, their officers, agents, servants or others, and it is on this understanding only that entries are received. The use of a cooking stove in the proximity of the tenting and benching areas is forbidden except as authorised by the Show Management. Every exhibitor making an entry or entries at or for this Show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the Kennel Club Limited Rules and Show Regulations printed herein, and by these regulations, and it is on this understanding only that entries are received. No persons will be permitted to take any hound into the Ring until required for judging. Exercising in the rings will be strictly prohibited. Exhibitors showing hounds are not permitted to hold conversation with the judges during competition and any exhibitor who persists in addressing the judges after being requested not to do so by the Ring Steward, the judge or any of the Committee may be disqualified and any prize awarded to his or her hounds forfeited. No persons other than the exhibitor (officials excepted) will be allowed in the ring during the judging of classes or specials. Dishonoured cheques will incur a £10 charge. HOUND ASSOCIATION WEB SITE: www.houndassociation.org.uk 8 DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES PUPPIES UNDER SIX CALENDAR MONTHS OF AGE ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EXHIBITION In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members’ Classes or competing for Members’ Specials, each partner must, at the time of entry, be a member of the Society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the closing date of entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. 8th June, 2015. Wins in Variety Classes do not count for entry in Breed Classes but when entering for Variety Classes, wins in both Breed and Variety Classes must be counted. A First Prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value. A dog is not eligible for entry in Variety Classes unless also entered and subsequently exhibited in a Breed Class where such a class is provided for which it is eligible. Exemptions from this Regulation are: (1) A Puppy, unless a class for dogs under twelve months of age for which it is eligible is provided for the breed (2) A dog in Any Variety Field Trial or Working Trial Class (3) A dog in Any Variety Veteran Class (4) A dog in Any Variety Champion Class (5) A dog which is withdrawn from exhibition in breed classes as a result of the appointment of an emergency judge. (6) A dog in YKC Stakes Classes. (7) A dog in Good Citizen Scheme Classes. (8) Exhibits bred by the scheduled breed Judge. If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options: (1) Withdrawal The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulations 9(j) and 20. (2) Transfer (a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted to the Open Class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. (b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy Class, Puppy Class or Junior Class, which is over age but under 12 calendar months of age, 18 calendar months of age or 24 calendar months of age respectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy Class, Junior Class or Yearling Class respectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy, Junior or Yearling Class, to the Open Class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. (c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog may not be transferred to any other class. MINOR PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the day of the Show. PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the day of the Show. Puppies under six calendar months of age on the day of the show are not eligible for exhibition. JUNIOR—For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the day of the Show. YEARLING—For dogs of twelve months and not exceeding two years of age on the day of the Show. SPECIAL BEGINNERS (Breed classes)—For owner, handler or exhibit not having won a Challenge Certificate in the breed. SPECIAL BEGINNERS (Stakes classes)—For owner, handler or exhibit not having won a Challenge Certificate in any breed. GRADUATE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or four or more First Prizes at Championship Shows in Graduate, Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open Classes, whether restricted or not, where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed. POST GRADUATE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or five or more First Prizes at Championship Shows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open Classes, whether restricted or not, where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed. MID LIMIT—For dogs which have not become Show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won five or more First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Mid Limit, Limit or Open Classes, confined to the breed, whether restricted or not, at shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed. LIMIT—For dogs which have not become Show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won seven or more First Prizes in all, at Championship Shows in Limit or Open Classes, confined to the Breed, whether restricted or not, at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed. OPEN—For all dogs of the breeds or varieties for which a class is provided and eligible for entry at the Show. IMPORTED REGISTER—For breeds whose Registration is confined to the Imported Register, and which subsequently may only be entered in these classes, and are ineligible for any other competition whatsoever, and where an Interim Breed Standard has been published by the Kennel Club. 9 VETERAN—For dogs of 7 years of age or upwards on day of Show. BRACE—For two exhibits (either sex or mixed) of one breed belonging to the same exhibitor, each exhibit having been entered in some class other than Brace or Team. PROGENY—For a dog or bitch accompanied by at least three of its registered progeny. The dog or bitch not necessarily entered in another class. However, all progeny having been entered and exhibited in another class. The dog or bitch and the progeny need not be registered in the same ownership. VARIETY CLASSES—An exhibit may now be entered and exhibited in Stakes classes only but will not then be eligible to Challenge for any other award in the breed or BIS/BPIS competition unless also entered in the breed. SPECIAL OPEN WORKING—All Hounds must either have hunted with a regulation pack, or successfully completed a scenting trial or be qualified as stated below. Entries must be accompanied by written authority from the Master of the pack, a Midland Basset Hound Club Scenting Trial Certificate awarded in the previous year, or hold a Working Certificate as specified. SPECIAL OPEN WORKING TRIAL—(a) For Beagles and Bassets Griffons Vendeen which have hunted with a recognised pack or hold a Working Certificate recognised by the Kennel Club from a registered society. Entries from pack entered hunting hounds must be accompanied by written authority from the Master of the pack. (b) For Bloodhounds which have a permit to enter a Bloodhound Working Trial or Kennel Club licensed Working Trial held under Kennel Club regulations. SPECIAL LURE CHASING DEERHOUND—For Deerhounds who have lure-chased at a recognised Club event. Name of Club to be given on entry form. SPECIAL OPEN RACING OR LURE-CHASING—For Whippets who have won a race with a WCRA recognised club (passports must be produced on the day) or who have lure-chased with the BFSA and for Greyhounds who must be registered with the KC and also registered with the NGRC or the NCC. KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME—For dogs which have obtained their Good Citizen Bronze award or above. REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION F (B) 1 These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited at any Kennel Club Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under these Show Regulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A42. (a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically be disqualified from exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat. (b) Unless the exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these Regulations then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule 42. 2 (a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog’s coat for any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external part of the dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the Show. (b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must not be allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition. 3 No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except: (a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee. (b) The removal of dewclaws of any breed. (c) Operations to prevent breeding, provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before neutered dogs are shown. Nor must anything be done calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive. 4 The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at any Show. Any examination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directive from the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis. 5 An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dog competing in the same breed or class, an objection may, however, be lodged by an official of the Show or by anyone so deputed by the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the objection or the official (as appropriate) to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for an objection made on its behalf. 6 Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made in writing to the Show Secretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual must produce evidence of identity at the time of lodging the complaint.
