Objectives for October 20th- 24th
Monday
Word Study: Students identify upper- and lower-case letters.
Shared Reading: Students listen to and chorally read a folktale, discuss the big idea, and retell a main event.
Independent Reading: Students discuss the big ideas of well-known folktales or fables.
Writing: Students write or dictate sentences in sequence to retell a story.
Math: Do 1st 9 weeks Kindergarten assessment checklist and review math skills for the week.
Science: Students will develop a basic understanding about light energy, brainstorm light sources, learn that makes color
and that light is detected through their sense of light.
Social Studies: Students will focus on the basic needs of families. Students will learn how families meet their basic
needs. Students will think of ways basic needs might be met in their families tomorrow.
Tuesday

Social Studies: The students will be exposed to vocabulary of picture cards that depict basic needs. Students will identify
a basic needs and classify it as food, clothing, or shelter.
Wednesday:
Word Study: Students identify the sound for the letter H.
Shared Reading: Students listen to and chorally read a folktale, discuss the big idea, and retell a main event.
Independent Reading: Students discuss the big ideas of well-known folktales or fables.
Writing: Students write or dictate a story in sequence.
Math: Do 1st 9 weeks Kindergarten assessment checklist and review math skills for the week.

Social Studies: Students will focus on the need for rules. Guide students to conclude that families are similar in that they
have rules and there are people in the family who are responsible for enforcing those rules. Students will demonstrate
their understanding of rules they follow at home.
Thursday:

Shared Reading: Students discuss the big idea of a folktale read aloud.
Independent Reading: Students demonstrate proper book handling while reading independently.
Writing: Students write or dictate a story in a sequence.
Math: Do 1st 9 weeks Kindergarten assessment checklist and review math skills for the week.
Science: Students will develop a basic understanding about light energy, brainstorm light sources, learn that makes color
and that light is detected through their sense of light.
Students will use the five senses to explore different forms of energy such as light, heat, and sound.
Social Studies: Students will understand that another way families are alike and different is in their celebrations and
traditions. Students will generate a list of customs and traditions their family consistently celebrates from year to year.
