Presenta5on (Main Presenter)
•
Have students join you in a circle on carpet while PowerPoint presenta5on gets turned on and begin the power point
•
Minutes 0-‐15-‐ Discuss power point then ask students to join you around a table quietly as you demonstrate the art ac5vity.
•
Minutes 15-‐20 – Ask students if they no5ced something different about the way people dressed in Mary Cassa^’s pain5ngs compared to how we dress? ( Most women wore dresses and hats, kids wore full bu^on down shirts and pants, the sleeves. We are going to pretend we live 150 years ago like Mary did. Demonstrate how to choose 1-‐2 people from the “fancy people” page and color small areas (skin, face, eyes, hair) with color pencil, larger areas with oil pastels. Tell students to think of their favorite memories and it probably involves your mom or dad or brother, sister-‐ another special person. •
Then show how to cut 1 out as soon as it’s colored and just rest on your construc5on paper. Then begin coloring second person or draw your own person, don’t glue anything down yet. Ask students to think of how Cassa^’s people are compared to our last ar5st Degas (Degas people and dancers were dynamic with large spaces under arms-‐ Cassa^’s are more quiet and calm and people are close to each other-‐ that is what gives the viewer that special loving feeling in her artwork. Remind students to use pastels with oil pastels (lighter colors or layer white over a darker color to make it look soeer).
•
Minutes 20-‐ 25 Aeer demonstra5on students may form a a line and take their color of construc5on paper. While they are wai5ng in line, have them recall a favorite memory they are going to draw. Go back to desks and begin color pencil on small areas of “Fancy People” sheet. •
Minutes 35-‐40 Count-‐ 5-‐4-‐3-‐2-‐1 out loud to get all kids to FREEZE and watch you. Now it is 5me to use glue s5ck and glue people close together onto paper. Also glue the !/2 page info sheet onto the back of paper. Print name in front like Mary signed her artwork. Explain that it will be 5me to clean up then and review a li^le as soon as we are cleaned up-‐ you have 5 minutes-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐ GO! DifferenAaAon-‐ If a student is struggling or can’t cut, give them a pre-‐cut out person and help “hand over hand” to color with color pencils. Ask students to show you the color or verbalize the color they are using. For the advanced, they may write a story on the back of about their memory if their artwork is finished. •
Minutes 40-‐45 Review and discussion ques5ons as 5me permits. Have students stand from their clean desk and show everyone their picture. Then have them put pictures down at desk. Ask who remembers 1-‐2 of the wrap up ques5ons-‐
