Real stars of silver screen?
The automobiles, of course
Some of the best movies of all time have had
key roles played by great
cars. Gearheads know
that a great flick has to
have some top-notch fourwheeled talent. Whether
it’s a chase, an explosion
or maybe even a little romance, the right car can be
a scene stealer. Cars.com
has released its list of top
movie cars, and here are
three of them.
1. 1981 DeLorean DMC-12,
“Back to the Future”: This
rear-wheel-drive vehicle
had a 1.21-gigawatt nuclear/electric hybrid with
five-speed manual transmission. Some of its other
notable features included
its gull-wing doors and 16port twin exhaust boxes.
Doc Brown’s DeLorean
achieves time travel at 88
mph thanks to that plutonium-powered nuclear
reactor and onboard flux
capacitor. By the end of the
first movie, it runs solely
on trash — and it can fly.
2. 1977 Pontiac Trans
Am, “Smokey and the
Bandit”: This 200-horsepower, 6.6-liter V-8 engine-carrying car had a
simple mission: helping
Pontiac
Burt Reynolds looked cool
in his ’77 Trans Am.
Bo “Bandit” Darville run
interference as a truckload
of bootleg beer is driven
from Texarkana, Texas,
to Atlanta. The car with
the T-top, CB radio and
runaway bride in the passenger seat participated in
some comical chases.
3. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT,
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”:
What teenager wouldn’t
want to cut class to take
a spin in dad’s bright red
Ferrari convertible? This
car had a 280-horsepower,
3.0-liter V-12 engine with a
four-speed manual transmission. Its wire grille, sizable tonneau compartment
and sleek exterior made it
attractive. Its low mileage
made it a heap of trouble.
Ferris had to cajole
Cameron into borrowing
the car, but they cruised
the streets of Chicago in
style.

Tips To Live By: Make Your Car ‘Green’
While alternative fuel and hybrid
cars are becoming increasingly
more popular, they still make up
a relatively small portion of the
market share. If you want to do
your part to help the environment,
there are little things you can do besides purchasing a new, energy
efficient car to do your part.
• Maintain your engine by replacing filters and fluids as directed
in your manual. Keeping your engine performing at its best will
increase fuel efficiency. A faulty engine or exhaust system can
cause your vehicle to emit pollutants.
• Don’t ignore your “Service Engine”
light.
• Make sure your tires are properly
inflated and aligned. This can reduce
the energy output of your engine and
save you money from having to buy new tires.
• Speeding and sudden movements guzzle gas.
• Rather than idling when waiting for someone, turn off the
engine.
• Older air conditioners contain chemicals that contribute to
ozone depletion. Have your air conditioning system serviced by
a technician who can handle and recycle refrigerants properly.
• Eliminate unnecessary driving and consolidate errands and daily
trips.
• Extra weight in your car can decrease gas mileage, remove
excess items from your car that add unnecessary weight.
• If you do your own repairs, be sure engine fluids and batteries
are properly disposed of, or be sure the service station you
choose to use disposes of these in an environmentally friendly
way. Improperly discarded fluids, such as antifreeze, can harm
animals and wildlife.
•
Walk when you can! Or ride a
bike. It’s good for both you AND the
environment!
•
Be sure you perform regular
maintenance on your vehicle.
Remember, keeping your vehicle’s performance at its peak and
changing some simple driving habits can make all the difference
to for a cleaner, greener Earth!
And will maintain the life and resale value of your car.

What is
I-CAR certification
means that the technicians
at that store have gone
through the I-CAR training
to gain technical knowledge and skills necessary
to complete thorough and
safe vehicle repairs.
I-CAR, the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto
Collision Repair, was
founded in 1979 by collision industry professionals. It is an international,
nonprofit organization with
members from the collision repair industry, insurance professionals, vehicle
and parts manufacturers
and providers of technical
?
education and research.
The Gold Class and
Platinum classifications
mean that technicians have
completed certain course
requirements and are fully
up-to-date on industry
advancements, including
technology and methods.
With today’s complex new
vehicles, keeping up with
these standards is important.
When a consumer sees
an I-CAR
Gold Glass
seal, they
know a highly trained
expert in collision repair
is repairing their vehicle.
It gives the consumer confidence in the work being
done on their car.
I-CAR offers both live
and online classes in Structural Analysis and Repair,
Electrical and Mechanical
Components, Damage
Analysis and Estimating,
Painting and Refinishing
and Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair, to
name a few.

CARSTAR Comics

It’s not always simple
for a body shop to become
a part of the CARSTAR
franchise. A store must
qualify through a rigorous
application process and
demonstrate a willingness
to improve and grow their
business.
Gary Boesel, owner of Alpine
CARSTAR in Aurora, Colo, opened
a second location, Jordan Road
CARSTAR in Centennial in June.
CARSTAR’s growth
so far this year is outpacing the collision repair
industry which has been
reported to be in a downturn. At CARSTAR stores,
same-store sales grew at a
rate of 8% last year.
“It’s truly an exciting
time for us,” says Chairman and CEO Dick Cross.
“We are becoming one of
those rare companies that
make extraordinary things
happen in their industry.”
Look for continued
growth in the CARSTAR
network into the future.
