Eight­year­old Nieve is the object of her parents’ custody battle. Her mother believes in the revolution but disagrees with authoritarianism. Nieve’s father is a playwright who sacrifices his career to write government propaganda. Through her diary entries, Nieve reveals intimate details of a turbulent family life while painting a portrait of the social and political unrest in Cuba under the rule of Castro. An arranged marriage awaits her, but Maria doesn’t sit back and accept her destiny. Pepe, a young coffee cutter who plans to migrate to the USA, becomes her possible way out.

Perla is the single mother of two daughters, products of her own unfulfilled obsession to become a beauty queen, and a son who she ignores.
