Wilcox County is located in the Southwestern Black Belt
of Alabama. The Black Belt is named for the rich black
soil that grew superior cotton during the 19th century. The
collapse of the plantation economy during the Civil War left
a legacy of “soul food” cooking, art fashioned from found
materials, vast stretches of pristine river bottom land and,
more recently, the Civil Rights Movement.
Wilcox County is also well-known for its numerous outdoor
opportunities.
The rural landscape boasts an impressive selection of
game animals, including whitetail deer, wild turkeys,
feral hogs, squirrels, rabbits, ducks, doves and geese.
The county has more miles of riverfront than any other
county in Southwestern Alabama.

The Ticonde ro g a Mill Re g io n
Since 1882, International Paper and the papermaking
industry have played a significant part in Ticonderoga’s
history. “Ticonderoga” is the Iroquois word meaning “the
land between the waters,” which is the land between Lake
Champlain and Lake George.
Rich in history and heroes, Ticonderoga features plaques
marking the sites of the French and Indian War, as well as
the Revolutionary War.
If you enjoy the great outdoors year-round, you will love
Ticonderoga, New York, in the Adirondack Mountains with
its many lakes, streams and ponds.

The Valliant Mill Re g io n
Welcome to Kiamichi Country, Oklahoma’s ideal setting
filled with sparkling lakes, rolling terrain, rich vegetation
and picturesque towns. The Valliant Mill is centrally located
to several larger neighboring communities, including Idabel,
Hugo and Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Paris, Texas. The
City of Valliant has a population of 738 and covers .8 square
miles. Founded in 1902 as a result of building the railroad,
the land was originally designated as part of the Choctaw
Nation. The Valliant Paper Mill was built in 1971 and was the
largest paper mill in the world at the time.
The mild year-round climate affords the outdoor enthusiast
the opportunity to take advantage of many activities. An
annual rainfall of 50” and an average temperature of 60°F
make for pleasant days with abundant sunshine.
Pine Creek Lake (Valliant) is conducive to good fish
production. Principal fish species include crappie, white
bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish
and various sunfish.
