We designed a simple system to help you through the ordering process: 1) Contact your 3M Customer Service Representative to calculate pricing and to start the process. 2) Fill out the Hard Hat Custom Logo & Reflective Order Form. Approval is required before we begin production of your order. 6) Production and Delivery – Once you have approved the proof, production begins. When the order is completed, it is shipped to you. What is the minimum order requirement for the Hard Hat Custom Logo & Reflective Program? There is a minimum of 20 hard hats per logo/color. Can different hard hat colors or suspension types be mixed to meet the 20 unit minimum order quantity? No. A minimum order of one case (20 hats) of each logo/color /suspension type is required. Can different hard hat colors or suspension types be combined to meet the 5 + plus case imprint price? Yes. The logo placement and color must be exactly the same for all the hard hats. How long will it take to receive my order? It takes approximately two weeks for delivery once the artwork proof is approved. Please consult your 3M Customer Service for delivery times on orders larger than 3,000 pieces. If I re-order hard hats with the same logo at a later date, will I need to re-submit my artwork? 3M archives logos for a period of three years from the initial order date. If a logo has not been used within three years, new artwork will need to be submitted, and a new set-up charge will apply. Pricing Are there any initial order set-up charges to put a Custom Logo on a hard hat? Yes. Standard Shipping and Handling charges will apply. Artwork Requirements NOTE: This step is the most important in the ordering process. Please provide 3M with digital camera-ready line art / vector artwork to ensure that your order is processed and delivered ontime. What type of artwork is required for the Hard Hat Custom Logo Program? The best type of artwork for the imprinting process is camera-ready line art / vector artwork. It usually has a file extension of .eps or .ai. Camera-ready line art / vector artwork can be defined as any logo that has been prepared for corporate stationery. It should have crisp, clean edges. Lines under 1/32” should be avoided. Where do I get camera-ready line art / vector artwork? Check with the person or company that developed your logo or the printer who prints your business cards or stationery. They should be able to provide you with an electronic file containing the artwork. Camera-ready line art / vector artwork is sometimes referred to also as “line art”. It usually has a file extension of .eps or .ai. Unless you have the proper computer software, you will not be able to open these files. Submit the files to us and we’ll take care of the rest. If you don’t’ have artwork in this format, please see the Other Types of Artwork section below. What is not considered camera-ready line art / vector artwork? Camera-ready line art / vector artwork is not: A sample of your company stationery A business card A printout from your computer A logo copied or saved from a web-site An object showing your logo (coffee cup, t-shirt, etc.) What do I do if I don’t have camera-ready line art / vector artwork? 3M will contact and ask you to provide the file in the correct format otherwise 3M will convert your logo into a camera-ready line art or vector format for a suggested list price of $100. Other Types of Artwork You can send a .tif, .jpg or .pdf file via email as your artwork submission. But, this is not camera-ready line art / vector artwork and will need to be re-worked by our graphics department before creating an electronic proof. Therefore, this can lengthen the delivery schedule of the order. These types of files are easier to work with if: Image resolution is at least 300 dpi Image is at least 2” by 2” Image is one color, or if the image is more than one color, the colors do not touch. If the colors in the image touch, the order will need to be processed as a four color logo imprint. The order will be charged for four colors even if the logo only contains two colors. A .jpg file is usually only acceptable if the image resolution is at least 300 dpi, the image is the correct size and the logo is only one color. A .pdf file is acceptable if the logo image that has been “embedded” in the .pdf file was the original camera-ready line art / vector file. Artwork Color How many colors can be printed on the hard hat? We can imprint up to a four-color logo on a hard hat. How will I know that you will use the proper colors of my company’s logo on the hard hat? To ensure we use the proper colors, we ask that you identify the correct colors on the Hard Hat Logo Order Form by referring to the PMS (Pantone Matched System – www.pantone.com) number. This system is a universally accepted method for selecting colors. Once again, if you are having trouble finding the correct PMS number for the colors of your logo, contact the person or company that developed your logo or the printer who prints your business cards or stationery. Another point to remember is that certain ink colors may vary slightly when printed on different color hard hats. We do not recommend imprinting light colors on a dark color hard hat because the hard hat color may show through the ink. To ensure color quality, you may order a custom proof of your logo on a hard hat. If this is of interest to you, please contact your 3M Customer Service Representative. There will be an additional $100 list price for this service. What if my logo has more than one color? Is there anything I need to do differently? If you are supplying an electronic file in one of the formats listed above (.eps, .ai), you should be fine. However, it would be beneficial to ask the person who supplied the electronic file if the camera-ready line art / vector artwork has been “separated”. Separated camera-ready line art / vector artwork shows each color in the logo “separate” or by itself from the other colors. Having separated camera-ready line art / vector helps ensure on-time delivery of your order. Artwork Size How large can my logo be on the hard hat? The size of your logo depends on the area of the hard hat you will be using. Here are the general dimensional parameters for logos on either the front, left side or right side: Hard Hat Model Location Width (In.) Height (In.) Artwork Proofing Will I get to see how the artwork will look on the hard hat before the order is processed? Yes. As part of our process, once we have received your camera-ready line art / vector artwork, we will create an electronic proof of your artwork. The proof is a two-dimensional printout showing the location of your artwork on the hard hat. We will email you this proof. You will need to approve this proof before we proceed with the production of your order. Will the adhesive affect the durability of the 3M Hard Hat? The proven 3M adhesive has been tested on 3M H-700 & H-800 Series Hard Hats and does not show any long term degradation to the hard hat shell. Does the addition of 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material change the flammability or electrical insulation properties of the 3M H-700 or H-800 Series Hard Hats? No, the addition of the reflective material does not change any flammability or electrical insulation properties. Is the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material conductive? No, it is not. Can I add a custom logo along with the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material? Yes, custom logo’s can be added to the front of the hard hat, but not the left side, right side or back. The left side, right side, and back of the hard hat will have the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material in place. Will the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material interfere with donning or attaching accessories on the hard hat? No, the reflective will not interfere with donning or attaching accessories to the 3M H-700 or H-800 Series Hard Hat. What is the coverage area of the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material on the 3M H-700 or H-800 Series Hard Hat? Greater than 10 square inches (left side, right side and back). How long can I expect the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material to last on my 3M H-700 or H-800 Series Hard Hat? Temperature and working environments may vary the longevity of the reflective material. 3M testing shows that the material holds up well in very rugged environments, both hot and cold. Are there any other color options to choose from 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Materials? Currently, we are only offering the Silver 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material on 3M H-700 or H-800 Series Hard Hats. Are there any other shapes I can select for 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material on my 3M H-700 or H-800 Series Hard Hats? Currently, we are only offering the unique 3M design for 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material on the 3M H-700 & H-800 Series Hard Hats. Can a customer or distributor order the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material separately, and apply the product to the Hard Hats on their own? No, at this time the 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material is only available on new hard hats, and will be assembled and applied by the 3M manufacturing plant.
