How does a 50’s controversial poet even compare to a modern day famous pop
artist? Sylvia Plath and Ed Sheeran have both complete different views in their writing,
but Plath's “Poppies In July” and Sheeran's “The A Team” seem to both be taking place
of a woman in a situation of drug abuse. Plath and Sheeran share the interest of
expressing their feelings through the use of creative writing, with words that evoke joy,
great use of metaphors and rhymes, and begin with the happiness of nature but shift
into something that is simply hid behind the meaning.
There is life and there is death in this little blue world. When someone passes on to the
eternal paradise the only thing we can do I remember them. We may not like it but we
can't change what it is bound to happen. Two artist, one a poet the other a rockstar left
a great impact on this world. Revolutionizing literature and music forever. Though they
were in two different sections of art they shared some similarities in their work. Such as
life/career, mood, techniques, shift, and morals.
“The memory of things gone is important to a jazz musician.”
Louis Armstrong Gwendolyn Brooks and Louis Armstrong where both famous
entertainers in the 1950s. During the 1950s, the Chicago Black Renaissance was a
period where there was a transformation in culture and the African-American writers and
artists were leaders in promoting racial pride. Brooks’ poem, To Be In Love, and
Armstrong’s song, La Vie en Rose, both focus on how beautiful a couple's love is when
they’re together, while giving off a vibrant and alive mood. Shift and the artists use of
techniques will be compared within their works.
Poets and songwriters, two different creatures of different mediums; however these vastly
contrasting creators have many qualities in common. In the Poem, ‘I Carry Your Heart With
Me’, and the song, ‘Carrying Your Love With Me’, the poet; E.E. Cummings and songwriter
George Strait, use poetic techniques to convey their own love for a significant other. Through
techniques, shift, and they’re semblance of romance and love, the artist's extend each one's theme
of traveling with a lover in mind.
Have you ever missed someone you love that is in heaven? W.H Auden, one of
the most influential voices in 20th Century poetry, wrote “Funeral blues”. Johnny
Cash, who won the 1985 Single of the Year, wrote “You are my sunshine my
only Sunshine”.They both have many similarities within their writings and
life. They both wrote about losing someone they cared about. Throughout
both the poem and song, I gathered that the mood was depressed and sad.
In the poem “Funeral Blues”, he uses many techniques, such as
hyperboles, metaphors, and end rhymes. In “You are my sunshine my only
sunshine” there are many techniques within, such as, metaphors, repetition
and end rhymes.
All three are influential figures within the world of art. All three make a statement with their
words. These writers come from an African-American background, growing up in the US and
dealing with its societal evolvement since civil rights have been granted to the black community
and their struggles in dealing with the still constant predicaments that come along with being
the minority with strong ties to America.
