Hurley’s GROOVY Newsletter March 31, 2017 REMINDERS: Please remember to return the agenda and homework folder each day. Fridays: Students may wear a hat for 25 cents. The Family Clothes Closet will be held at the Westport Baptist Outreach Center on April 5-7 from 8-7 daily. There is no charge for the clothing! A look back at this week...… Reading: The students read expository text stories this week. We focused on the following skills: text structure (compare and contrast), context clues, ask/answer questions, and Greek roots. Language: We worked on adjectives that tell what kind or how many plus the order of adjectives. Additional daily practice was used to help reinforce all 5th grade language skills. Writing: The students wrote a paragraph about their spring break this week. Tickets ($5) go on sale Monday, April 3, at 8 a.m. for the SDES production of LION KING, JR. Math: The kids worked on these skills this week: line plots, elapsed time, and converting fractions/decimals/percents. Social Studies: The students learned about how our nation came to be and more about the three branches of government. Science: The class began their new unit on the solar system. Ask your child about the experiment on shadows. =) Performances are Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21 at 7 pm. Tickets are going fast. "Be Prepared" and get your tickets early!
