In English, all the children have now completed their final drafts of their revolting recipes. I am so pleased with
how their recipes have come out and I know the children are too. Some children have told me how they have been making
their recipes at home using their instructions. A couple of children have even brought their final recipes in for the class to
try which is fantastic. The last thing we have to do now is to put all their recipes together to create our class Revolting
Recipe book that we can keep.
In Maths, we have been focusing on converting different types of measure. We have looked at converting grams to
kilograms, milliliters to liters and vice versa. We found out there are 1000 grams in a kilogram and there are 1000 milliliters
in a liter. Therefore we realised that to convert grams to kilograms we needed to divide by 1000 and to convert kilograms
back to grams we would multiply by 1000. We also applied this method when converting liters to milliliters. To convert
milliliters to liters we needed to divide by 1000 and then to convert liters back to milliliters we needed to multiply by 1000.
We also started to look at time. Most children were happy with converting 12 hour clock to 24 hour clock. We then began to
look at reading train/bus timetables. This was more of a challenge for some children so we will come back to look at this
again.
Have a go at completing:
1. Convert 0.1 kg into grams =
2. Convert 3000 g into kilograms =
3. Convert 04:25 into 24 hour clock =
This week, our Christmas play ‘The Grinch’ has really started to take shape. We have been practicing in the hall, going
through the play, working out where everyone will stand and how they will all come in. Hopefully by next week, all the
children will have a copy of the script that they can take home so they can begin to learn their parts.
In science the children have begun to look at different forces such as push, pull, twist and what it is that creates these
forces such as gravity and air resistance. The children created a mind map of all the different forces that they could think
of at home.
Thank you for all the wonderful home about Anti-bullying that I saw this week. We had posters, songs, poems, raps and
even a scratch project. As a class, we chose the poem written by Keira called ‘Don’t Bully Me’ to perform as a class. We have
now recorded the whole class reading the poem and it will be going up on our website very soon.
Homework: Make sure you are continuing to read your reading book every day and practice your times tables. In English we
are now moving onto looking at the Christmas book called ‘Coming Home’ by Michael Morpurgo. This is what the Waitrose
Christmas advert is based upon. As a result I would like the children to plan their own Christmas story. They can use our
boxing up method that we have used in school before or a story map which we have also used in school before.
As the children are performing ‘The Grinch’ for their Christmas play, we thought it would be beneficial for the children to
see the original film. The film is rated PG. If you are not happy for your child to watch a PG rated film, please come and see
me so I can arrange something else for them to do.
Don’t forget 25th November is our get ready for Christmas afternoon. You are welcome to come in from 1:15 and stay for
the whole afternoon to help us create a variety of Christmas crafts. I am looking forward to seeing some of you then.
Miss Cross, Ms Darroch, Mrs Carr and Mrs Beachwood
