Samoa is a postcard of natural beauty consisting of ten islands, each offering very distinct and different environments to explore.
Home to people proud of their strong Fa’a Samoa - cultural heritage, that live along side a number
of beautiful natural wonders in the form of beautiful rainforests, lush green fertile valleys & sparkling white sandy beaches.
A large part of Samoan Cultural Heritage is depicted in a number of their cultural handicrafts. One
of Samoa’s main cultural handicrafts is it’s Elei Material amongst a number of others.
Elei Material
Elei (pronounced e-lay) is material which is dyed with a mixture of colourful symbols that represents
tokens which are significant to the Samoan culture & its traditional values.
The material is taken through a tie—dye process which uses traditional wooden moulds to imprint
the symbols & colours onto the material.
The results of this special process is the creation of the “Elei” material.
