the brochure here - America`s March to Yorktown

The History of the
Washington - Rochambeau
Revolutionary Route
A monumental task to establish a 600mile Washington - Rochambeau Revolutionary
Route was inaugurated on Dec. 16th, 2000 at
Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh,
NY. This effort includes coordinating with
Francophone commissions that unite French
cultural groups with American veteran’s
organizations, historical groups, and other
volunteers to provide a Nationally recognized
Historical Trail that would outline a selfguided auto route, hiking trails, visitors centers,
appropriate signage, and associated literature.
The literature and signage would include
original campsites, historical sites and other
local points of interest along the route.
The route commemorates a FrancoAmerican campaign to immobilize the British
in New York City and the ensuing victory
at Yorktown over British General Charles
Cornwallis which effectivily ended the
Revolutionary war. Without this first alliance
of the new American republic there would not
have been that victory of liberty and democracy
over tyranny. Washington’s special contribution
was not just his capable leadership. Beyond
changing governments, this monumental victory
demonstrated that it was within human nature to
decline absolute power and to work together for
the common good.
Won’t you please help make this
historical reenactment a reality with your
generous support or contribution today.

Special Program Note
Each evening, throughout the march
the reenactors and associates may be available
to present talks and demonstrations of the
almost-forgotten story of how our freedom
and independence were secured by a mix of
unlikely ally, dedicated troops, and a wellcoordinated general staff.
As part of our talks, we’ll describe
the present efforts to mark the trail, develop
sites and tours along the trail, and encourage
all-route events such as parades, public
events and re-enactments to bolster public
awareness of the routes. We’ll also also be
available to discuss how towns, communities,
and organizations can benefit from
additional tourism, recruit volunteers and
work in coordination with the existing state
committees.
Choice dates and times are filling
up fast. To assure your group or event are
not left behind in this unique and exciting
opportunity, contact Richard Swartwout to
schedule a presentation in your area today.
If you or your organization can support
this historic event in any way, by donating
funds, time, walking a portion of the route,
finding or offering shelter for marchers, meals
or the use of a support vehicle, or by donating
any of the items listed below, please let us know.
This is a non-profit effort, paid primarily by
each of the event participants, so any donation,
big or small would be greatly appreciated.
Please contact any one of the listed Core
Committee Members to make arrangements to
pickup or deliver your offering and to see that
you are mentioned in our PR brochures and our
Donor’s pledge sign, as well as recognized in
your local community. This event is extremely
costly and the participants are all volunteers
doing it with no monetary gain and funding out
of their own pockets. Any help or assistance is
not too big or too small. Items needed by the
marchers and support staff are:
First Aid Supplies (band-aids, blister
pads, antiseptics, ace bandages, asprin,
etc.)
Camping supplies (bug repellent,
charcoal, etc.)
Assorted groceries & bottled water
Freeze dried foods
Sports or energy drinks
Individually wrapped snacks
