This final unit of fourth grade brings students out of their study of other peoples' experiences and back to their own personal
experiences. With a focus on personal narratives as a genre and writing style, students will explore personal writing from various
genres (i.e. memoirs, historical accounts, autobiographies, poems) as a vehicle for telling their own individual stories.

This unit expands student learning about comparing multiple literature sources, extending into analysis of character development. The focus centers on characters from myths and other cultural literature and whether or not they should be revered and
elevated as heroes. Through in-depth study of character traits, actions, and the various depictions of these figures in multiple
sources, students will gather information to form their own opinions.

This unit explores how multiple authors create different interpretations of a single event. Students will examine literature
focused around historical and contemporary depictions of famous events. Through reading, students will identify how an
author's writing style or point of view (including the narrator of a story) can affect the reader's understanding. Using the factual
information learned in this unit, students will extend their thinking to include their own conclusions and attitudes about these
same events.
