Final Test – The Hobbit (~50 points)
TO REVIEW:
 Major Events
o Go over what happened in each chapter in chronological order.
o Focus on the major events from the story, and be able to put them in
order from the beginning of the adventure to the end.
 Characters
o Look back at the story for the important characters Bilbo met along
the way on his travels.
o Be able to identify these characters and tell why they were important
to the story.
o Consider direct characterization, as well as the STEAL method for
indirect characterization.
 The Two Sides of Bilbo
o Think about Bilbo’s personality – how was he at the beginning of the
story and how do we leave him at the end?
o Be able to define and describe his Took side and his Baggins side.
What was each side like? How did these two sides of this personality
fight along the way in some of the things Bilbo did in the book?
o Go back through your book and make sure you’ve annotated places
where we learn more about Bilbo’s two sides and what they do when
Bilbo is faced with different challenges. You will be able to use your
book for the essay part of the test.
THE TEST:
 Place 15 events in order chronologically from the start of the book to the end.
 Identify important characters from descriptions given and explain why each
one was important to the story.
 Write an essay on the two sides of Bilbo’s personality (you may use your book
for this portion of the test).
