Energy Expenditure - Answers
Have you ever thought about how long you would need to exercise to burn the extra calories
you eat? Your body uses between 1000-2000 calories each day just to live, but what happens
to the additional foods you eat? The chart on the left shows how many calories a 160-pound
person burns during one hour of various activities. Keep in mind that if you weigh less than
that, you burn fewer calories; if you weigh more than that, you burn more calories. The chart
on the right shows the amount of calories in various foods.
