The following topics will be covered on the exam:
1. The Olympics
2. India and Gandhi
3. Causes of Wars
4. Causes of WWI, events
5. The reasons that motivated men to fight in WWI.
1. Know all the reasons men signed up to fight and the reasons that motivated soldiers to continue
fighting in WWI. Pgs. 58-6l Study the sources, as well.
2. Know the causes of War from page 53 - look in the activity box. These are general causes of wars or
conflicts. You may be asked to apply and/or explain them.
3. Review: A quick history of the First Word War pages 56-57 in your text. Know what happened at
Gallipoli , Verdun, and The Battle of the Somme.
3. Review your notes on the CAUSES of WWI. (Colonial rivalry, Balkan nationalism, Alsace-Lorraine,
The Arms Race, The Naval Race, Wilhelm II and German Militarism and The Assassination of Archduke
Franz-Ferdinand and his wife.)
4. How do the boxes that contain information on India’s industry (import/exports), transportation,
communications, population, electricity, income, education etc…indicate that India is still not a totally
developed country?
5. Know how to answer the following questions:
a. What effects did the British have on the Kikuyu tribe? (pg. 47)
b. What were black people not allowed to do? (pg. 47 see 1-4 in green box)
c. Describe the brutal treatment of the British. (pg. 48 see yellow 4 points)
d. Why did Kenya become independent? (pg. 49)
e. Why was Hong Kong important for the British? (pg. 50)
f. What was the lease on the "New Territories"? Explain. (pg 50)

g. Pg. 40-41 - How did India gain Independence?
7. Know the following ON THE OLYMPICS: Read pages 3-15 on the Olympics and concentrate on the
important games shown in the pictures on page 3.
