Internship: Robotics
(Four positions)
About the job:
The CSIR has Internship: Robotics in the Mobile Intelligent Autonomous Systems (MIAS)
emerging research area within the Modelling and Digital Science (MDS) unit. The incumbent’s role
will be to undertake project development duties including software development, software
verification, and robot system operation and demonstration. These positions are based in Pretoria.
About the group:
The MIAS research group undertakes innovative research in field robotics, including research in
areas such as machine learning, computer vision, navigation, and planning.
Key responsibilities:






Learn procedures of robotics operation and demonstration;
Undertake robotics development work as required by group projects during the internship
period;
Software development and software verification testing;
Participate in the installation, upkeep and smooth operation on infrastructure and
equipment;
Robot operation and demonstration;
Contribute to group technical reports and project documentation.
Qualifications, skills and experience:







A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g. electrical, electronic, computer, mechanical) or
computer science;
Must have the ability to program in C or C++;
Must be familiar with Octave/Matlab (or a similar interpreted programming language such
as Python);
Good interpersonal and team skills;
Good communication, presentation and writing skills;
Must be able to work independently, as well as on an interdisciplinary team;
Self-motivated, with problem-solving and solution-seeking inclinations.
