Aligned College Math PLATO Learning Environment 2014

Aligned College Math PLATO Learning Environment 2014‐2015 Guidelines ACM PLATO 2014 – 2015 Guidelines Introduction Cuyahoga Community College (Tri‐C), members of the North Coast Tech Prep Partnership (NCTPP) and all Math classes that are active participants in the Aligned College Math Program, have entered into an agreement (see the Aligned College Math Articulation Agreement) to offer articulated credit to qualified students who successfully complete high school math classes that are aligned with Tri‐C Math 0980 and Math 1280. The goals of the Aligned College Math Program: * To prepare high school students for entry into postsecondary education without the need for remediation in mathematics * To enable high school students to earn free college credit in mathematics * To encourage cooperation and collegiality among high school teachers and college faculty Criteria for Granting College Credit for College Math 1280 -

Students must pass the 2014‐2015 Tri‐C final for Math 0980 and Math 1280 with a “B” (80%) or better grade. Students must maintain a 3.0 or better GPA in their Aligned College Math class. Students who meet the above requirements and pass the 2014 – 2015 Tri‐C Math 1280 final with a grade of “B” (80%) or better are exempt for one year from the mandatory math placement test at Tri‐
C. Students applying for the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) must take the Tri‐C Placement Tests. Class lists of eligible students are established at the high schools and Tri‐C. Classes will include Plato® Academic Systems Algebra software as part of the classroom instruction. Only those classes that are aligned with Tri‐C Math 0980 and Math 1280 and whose teachers participate in Aligned College Math are eligible. Teachers must submit the following documentation to the Tri‐C math faculty representative: a copy of each student’s final exams (2014 – 2015 Tri‐C Math 0980 and 1280 exams by June 12, 2015) along with each student’s final grade in the course; a completed Aligned College Math electronic spreadsheet; and the Section Progress Report (Quiz Report) in PDF format from Plato® Academic Systems Algebra for each section or class. A completed green Tri‐C application for each student must be submitted to the Tech Prep Office by December 2014. Students who have met the criteria above and have maintained a 2.0 or better overall GPA in grades 9 through 12 will receive College credit for the following course upon the receipt of a final transcript of grades from the students’ high school. Specific course for which the student is eligible to receive credit: MATH 1280 Advanced Intermediate Algebra 5 Semester credits Criteria for Exemption from the Tri‐C Math Placement Exam Aligned College Math students who earn Tri‐C Math 1280 credit are automatically exempt from taking the Tri‐C Math Placement exam for one year. These students are able to register for the next math class above 1280 when enrolling at Tri‐C. Aligned College Math students who do not earn Tri‐C Math 1280 credit may be exempt from taking the Tri‐
C Math Placement exam for one year if the following criteria are met: -

Aligned College Math Articulation Agreement Cuyahoga Community College, North Coast Tech Prep Partnership, and High Tech Academy have entered into an articulation agreement to offer articulated credit to qualified students who successfully complete high school math (Algebra 2) classes that are aligned with Tri‐C Math 0980 and Math 1280. The College has entered into this agreement because the use of Plato® Academic Systems Algebra software as part of the high school classroom instruction aligns the high school course content with the course content of Tri‐C Math 0980 and 1280. Tri‐C math instructors and high school math teachers work together by meeting on a regular basis to maintain this alignment. High school students benefit from the aligned content and are able to earn articulated college credit as a result. The DRAFT 2015 Aligned College Math Articulation Agreement is found on the next page of this document. The FINAL version of the Articulation Agreement will be available by January, 2015. Instead, these students take developmental/remedial math classes which cost money and don’t count toward college graduation. What can be done? Follow the Tech Prep Formula for Success in College Math  Enroll in Aligned College Math (Algebra 2) in High School  Enroll in senior level math in High School  Score above the Math 1280 level* on the Compass Math Placement Test or the PLATO Pre‐Assessments for Math 1280 or the ACT Math Test. What is above the Math 1280 level? A score of 66 or above in the Algebra test placement domain on the Compass Math Placement Test or 80% or above on the PLATO Pre‐
Assessments for Math 1280 or 23 or above on the ACT Math Test. What if a student does not place at the Math 1280 level? Use the free Compass Prep Math courseware available at your high school, and then take the Compass Math Placement Test. If your score is 66 or above in the Algebra test placement domain, college math credit may be available to you. See your Tech Prep Counselor or Aligned College Math teacher for more information. *North Coast Tech Prep students who test into the Pre‐Algebra test placement domain or into the 0‐35 score range in the Algebra test placement domain are NOT eligible to use Compass Prep
