Why Me?
 This presentation was made to inform the teachers of
Walnut Creek Elementary, of the Dewey Decimal
Classification system.

Who is Melvil Dewey?
 He invented the Dewey Classification
System for books in 1876.
 He was born in northern New York
and as a child he loved math class and
organizing things.

 Using his love for organization and mathematics, he
formed the Dewey Decimal Classification System while
working as a student in the Amherst College library.
How it all works
 The Dewey Decimal Classification system is the way
the libraries organize nonfiction books in a uniform
way.
 The Dewey system assigns a number to a given book
based on its subject matter.
 This system is broken down into ten main classes. The
classes are defined by discipline.
