PINE NEEDLE MONTHLY Piners defeat Central in season opener, 22-7 PHOTOS BY STEPHEN PEACOCK The Lakewood Piners varsity football team opened up their 2014 season with a victory over the Central Regional Golden Eagles, whom they defeated at home 22-7 on Saturday, September 13. The Piners bounced back from some mistakes early in the game and ended up with 190 rushing yards and 85 passing yards, including a touchdown run by junior halfback Amir Tyler, two touchdowns receptions by wide receiver Naquese Joshua (one thrown by Cook and the other from Tyler). Cook and Tyler each also scored separate two-point conversions. Cook, Eric Segui, and Tyler helped pile on the rushing yards with 79, 57 and 50, respectively. PINE NEEDLE MONTHLYPAGE 2 Carnival time at LHS LHS club schedules announced It’s that time of year again, Piners! Clubs are starting but they’re missing something important--YOU! There’s something for everyone. Please check with the club advisor for specific meeting dates and times. The Class of 2015 is hosting a funfilled Carnival on Saturday, September 27, 4 p.m.-8 p.m., adjacent to the LHS main parking-lot soccer fields. Games and activities planned for the event include an Obstacle Course, Kickball Game, Sumo Wrestler Outfit, Mechanical Bull, Quarter Fish Tank, Henna Tattoos, Face Painting, Photo Booth, Water-Balloon Toss, Shell Decorating, and Wheel Game. The Carnival also will offer Dunk Tank, featuring Chuck from Security as well as the assistant principals! Lots of food and drinks will be sold at the Carnival, too. The Class of 2015 will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, candy and drinks. The Class of 2014 will have on hand funnel cakes, pretzels, peanuts, “icees,” lemonade, and swirl lollipops. The Freshman Class will be selling cotton candy and snow cones, the Interact Club will have empanadas, cupcake decorating and fried Oreos, and the Student Government Association (SGA) will sell nachos.
