150 Year Book
Author and Southland Times senior writer Michael Fallow describes this new book as
“a scamper through 15 decades to show at least a little of how The Southland Times has
drawn from, and contributed to, the lives of its readers and the times in which they lived.
The book seeks to show how attitudes of the day, and the personalities of the Times’ own personnel,
were reflected in the coverage of stories large and small. It features journalistic successes, failures and eccentricities.
It tells how the paper’s owners and management, particularly three generations of
the Gilmour family, steered a steady corporate course through good times and
bad; how advertisers at times showed breathtaking cheek, and how a paper boy
became a lifelong friend of Field Marshal Montgomery.”
A 176 page full colour book published to celebrate 150 years of The Southland
Times.
Price: $25 when pre ordered, $30 at the registration evening on 9 November.
The print run is limited so we recommend pre ordering to avoid disappointment.
