KNOCK KNOCK PUBLISHES THE MADE-UP WORDS PROJECT
A collection of silly phrases from real families
VENICE, California, May 1, 2015—Today, Knock Knock, publisher of witty gifts
and books, announced the release of The Made-Up Words Project in their Fall
2015 signature line.
The Made-Up Words Project, created and
illustrated by Rinee Shah, is a collection of
unique phrases crowd-sourced from
submissions around the globe and based on
Shah’s popular project and website of the
same name, The Made-Up Words Project. It
compiles 100 silly phrases from real families—
like sticking your cold feet under someone’s
butt on the couch (“nurdeling”)—accompanied
by full-color illustrations on every page.
“When the idea came up, I thought it could be
something that a lot of people would relate to, no matter who they were,” Shah
said. “Some of these words are so random, you can't help but laugh. There's also
something so universal about these words. Many of them describe something
that everyone has experienced in some way.”
Reminiscent of the odd little phrases your own family created, this whimsical
book is a winning combination of warmth and sweetness—and a great gift for
family, friends, and co-workers.
“When The Made-Up Words Project proposal came in, we were smitten from the
get-go. Most families have their own secret language—funny words they’ve
made up for things—and the book sparks a fun sense of nostalgia and
playfulness in that way,” Erin Conley, Knock Knock’s managing editor, said.
“Also, the illustrations are incredibly charming. We just loved the whole package.”
The Made-Up Words Project will hit shelves in select retailers, booksellers, and
gift boutiques in the U.S., Canada, and the UK in August 2015. It is also available
for purchase online at knockknockstuff.com and Amazon in July 2015.
