Botonique - A Revolutionary New Soft Drink for Wine Lovers

Showing first time at SFFF 2016, Genius Drinks introduces
Botonique Crisp Dry White – the Soft Drink For Wine Lovers
Botonique was created by a wine merchant to deliver the complexity
and satisfaction of a dry white wine but without alcohol.
Creator Hilary Marsh explains “Botonique is for those times when your
spirit fancies a dry white wine or Prosecco, but your body needs a night off”.
Flavour alchemy
Flavour and goodness is extracted from many herbs, spices and other beneficial botanicals using
alcohol – the medium of choice for apothecaries through the ages. The alcohol is then distilled off,
bringing it back to being a soft drink. The flavours are blended to get the kind of complexity and
taste satisfaction normally only found in good wines or spirits. The result is a totally unique and
intriguing taste reminiscent of dry white wine, with hints of gin and vermouth.
As well as her wine skills, in developing Botonique Hilary also drew on
a happy childhood helping her family make hedgerow wines and elixirs.
She’s been obsessed with taste and blending new flavours ever since.
“It’s funny how experiences we take for granted when we’re young can
have such a powerful effect.” She’s been called a modern day alchemist.
Nutritional needs
The alchemy extends to function also. Hilary has long been aware of the damage
alcohol can do in the short and longer term. Years ago she researched this and
developed – purely for her own benefit - a formulation of vitamins, minerals and amino acids to
replace the nutrients that alcohol depletes. She’d also serve it to friends who came to dinner
so that they wouldn’t complain about her over-generous hospitality the next day. She’s included a
version of this formula in Botonique. As Hilary puts it “Obviously the best thing that a healthconscious wine lover can do is cut back on how much they drink. But if you are drinking any more
than teeny amounts of alcohol, then you are likely to run low on certain nutrients. The added
vitamins, minerals and amino acids mean that every time you replace a glass of wine with a glass
of Botonique you are doing yourself a doubly good turn.”
All good stuff
Botonique has one sixth the calories of wine (just 14 calories per 100ml), with no added sugar
or artificial sweeteners or flavours. The touch of sweetness comes from pear juice.
