LATIN ROOTS IS A LIVING-HISTORY
EDUCATION PROGRAM AND PUBLIC
ART EXHIBITION THAT CELEBRATES
THE VIBRANT CULTURE AND HISTORY
OF NEW YORK CITY’S LATINO
NEIGHBORHOODS.
In 2003 Community
Works created the
first Latin Roots
exhibit, Latin Roots:
East Harlem,
working with
students from Boys
and Girls Harbor and
Frederick Douglass
Academy II. Since then, Community Works
has honored Latino neighborhoods each year
by creating an exhibition with local public
school students with help from local cultural
and historical groups. Each exhibit honors
local heroes and includes a pictorial timeline
presenting each neighborhood’s history over
the past 100 years. Latin Roots exhibits
travel to sites throughout the five boroughs.
