He quickly learns that winning doesn’t mean anything if you can’t be proud of how you play the game.” Artwork Spotlight Buttercup Yellow Persian with Red Lip Wrap by Dale Chihuly On display in the Contemporary Gallery The American Banking Company of Moultrie purchased Buttercup Yellow Persian with Red Lip Wrap by Dale Chihuly for the Colquitt County Arts Center’s Contemporary Collection in memory of Susan Sheldon. Known as the man who pioneered the modern studio glass frontier in America and the first to establish the fragile material as an environmental art, Dale Chihuly’s name has become synonymous with glass. His art is not out of place in venues like the White House, the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Olympic Arena, and he is one of four Americans ever to have a show at the Louvre in Paris. Chihuly’s sculptures have explored color, line and composition. His works range from small single piece vessels to his better known multipart assemblages that are often commissioned for specific venue installations. A dominant figure in the art world, Chihuly’s influence is everlasting and hardly as fragile as the glass he works with. Dale Chihuly is now widely recognized as the world’s premier glass artist and has been the subject of many books, critical essays and TV specials. As a man with extreme determination and imaginative abilities, Chihuly creates larger than life sculptures that demonstrate his unparalleled originality as a true master of his craft. The Colquitt County Arts Center’s Patron Event Friday, April 7th, an event was held to celebrate our Patrons. An annual award was also unveiled to honor the memory of Mrs. Evelyn King Vereen a beloved Patron and Community Volunteer.
