`The Power of Less`.

Week Two Message Discussion Questions
Introduction:
A new series continues this week title 'The Power of Less’. If we are
willing to submit to the authority of Jesus He can change our lives, but
this only happens if we let Him have first place in our hearts. This is
brought home in John 3:30. 'He must become greater, I must
become less.’
Have you ever thought about what it means for you to become less?
Questions:
1. What does our culture teach us about being great in this life?
How's that working out for you? Are there things that you can't
seem to overcome?
2. What happens when you finally come to the point of emptying
yourself from self? What fills you after that?
3. What is the biggest threat to your freedom? Something that is
at the root of most of the problems (wars, etc.) in this world?
Where does selfishness show up in your life? How is that at
odds with the fruit of the spirit that God wants to fill you with?
4. How does Satan use selfishness against you? Why do you still
fall for his lie? How does this steal your joy & contentment?
What does the opposite (selflessness) look like? How would you
define selflessness?
o Read: Philippians 1:1-7; 8-14; 15-18; 19-26
5. How is Paul a wonderful example of selflessness? What can we
learn from him from this letter? How can selfless people find joy
regardless of their circumstances? How would you feel if you
were Paul? How is it possible to have peace & contentment in
his circumstances?
6. The 1st thing Paul is focused on is: his mission that Christ had
given him. Why would focus on his mission change his
perspective on his circumstances? What do you see as your
mission? How can your focus on that alter your perspective on
your circumstances?
o Ref: Philippians 1:15; 18
7. The 2nd is: he is focused on the well being of others. How
can you find joy in the lives of others and the good things that
are happening in their lives? How can that provide exponentially
greater opportunities for joy & happiness for you?
o Ref: Philippians 1:3-7
