PARENT INFORMATION LETTER: To Parents of French students in

PARENT INFORMATION LETTER:
To Parents of French students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 and the ¾ split.
Hello Parents. I have been working on creating an eTeacher Page that would be
accessible to the parents of students I teach as well as the students themselves.
My eTeacher Page is found on the College Park School website and I have
introduced the epages to students in the Grade 3 classes and the Grade ¾ split
class.
I will be introducing the epages to students in the Grade 2 classes in the next few
weeks and the Grade One classes later in November.
I do not use student computers with my Kindergarten classes but you are
welcome to access any of the activities and links on the epages described below.
The Kindergarten students will especially like to share the epage that provides
links to the songs and videos we use during French class.
FINDING THE ETEACHER PAGE:
You can find this page by going on to the College Park School website.
Once on the website you would click on the “eTeachers” tab at the top of the
page.
When you have arrived at the “eTeacher” page you will ‘Select a Teacher’ by
clicking on the arrow and selecting Mrs. Lynn Kardas. (Sorry, all names are in
English only!)
You can read my personal introduction and on the left hand side of the page
(under my name) you will find 1. Website Links and Games
2. Vocabulaire Links and Lists
These are the 2 sections that I have ‘published’ for now but I will be adding
more ‘pages’ as the year progresses.
Students in Grades 2,3, and the ¾ split should be able to get to these pages
quickly.
Epages to explore:
When you click on the ‘Website links and Games’ page you will find some review
games and activities to practice with your child which will allow them to show
you what they have been learning in French class.
Some of the games are challenging for the younger grades so please ask your
child which games they have been shown in class. Students are welcome to
explore other games at home but should be reminded that if they are finding
them too difficult they should keep practicing the games they have been playing
in class.
I have labelled the games in English for the most part so students can find them
independently in class or at home.
1. ‘listen to French numbers’ is an excellent way for your child to practice
how the numbers sound in French.
There is a ‘listening challenge’ game they can do when on this link.
The numbers listed go from 1-100 and beyond. Of course, students in my
classrooms do not need to know all of these numbers but they can listen
to them if they would like to.
Students in Kindergarten should be familiar with numbers 1-10, students
in Grade One should be familiar with numbers 1-20, Grade 2 students
should practice numbers 1-30 and Grade 3 students should practice
numbers 1-50. Grade 4 students should know numbers 1-69. Numbers
are ongoing throughout the year so feel free to practice them often.
2. Quia.com is a website that lists the top 100 French games used on this
website. It updates this list often but the games we play remain on the top
100 list although the specific game number might change each time you go
on the website. Many of these games are too difficult for the students but
there are 5 or 6 games that we practice and use during class time. I will list
the games we play by ‘title’ and I will attach the sheet I have the students
use (cheat sheet) when going on this website to help them play the games.
The ‘cheat sheet’ will allow them to practice the vocabulary we have
covered in order to play the games. This sheet is to help them play their
game independently.
Students may explore other games on this website but would be expected
to practice the games we play in class. I will list the game ‘titles’ but
remember that the game ‘numbers’ will change as the website updates
their top 100 games every day.
3. Bonjour les amis! Is a website that most students in Grade 2, 3, and 4 were
on last year. They will be able to show you the games we have played in
class. There will be some activities on this website that the students did not
go on yet but they can explore these areas if they wish and learn some new
vocabulary on their own.
I will be adding more websites throughout the year that I will introduce in the
classroom so you can watch for these as the year progresses. Your child can
show you at home as the new links are introduced in the classroom.
When you click on the ‘Vocabulaire Links and Lists’ page you will find some links
that will help you and your child practice the pronunciation of vocabulary we
cover throughout the year.
I have put on several links which include vocabulary we have covered in class
plus much more! You can ask your child which vocabulary we have covered in
class but you are welcome to explore all of the various ‘theme’ vocabulary. Your
child is not expected to know all of the vocabulary, just vocabulary covered in
class.
I will be adding more links on this page as we work our way through our many
themes.
I have put on some review lists for vocabulary covered this term for the older
students. I will continue to add vocabulary lists throughout the year.
I will not include all vocabulary lists for every theme for every Grade as this
would be many pages long. Core themes such as colors, numbers, and school
vocabulary would be good to review all year long. Seasonal vocabulary and
vocabulary covered in individual classroom themes will be available when
viewing the video and song links that I am working on now.
I am presently working on sorting songs and videos used in my classes in every
grade according to the various themes and seasons.
This page is to be called ‘Les Chansons et les Videos’.
When you click on the ‘Les Chansons et les Videos’ page you will be able to listen
to the French songs we sing in class as well as view the French videos I show the
students. The songs and video links will be listed according to themes.
There will be many song and video links on this page and I am sure all of the
students will enjoy going back over all the songs and videos they have watched
since Kindergarten. Older students will get to watch videos that they may not
have seen for quite awhile.
I will keep adding video links to this page as the year goes on. I am hoping to
have this page available by the end of November.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read through this information letter.
I hope you enjoy using these links and I hope they are useful to you and your
child. It is a great opportunity to share what your child has been learning in
French class!
If you find some great French links out there that you think would be great for us
to use please let me know.
If you have any questions about any of the above information please feel free to
contact me at [email protected].
I hope your child is enjoying learning French this year. Having these links for your
child to use at home and at school is a great way for them to let you know what
they are doing in French class and a great way for them to practice their French
vocabulary at home.
When ‘Les Chansons et les Videos’ are available for your students to access they
will love being able to share our songs and videos with you!
Sincerely,
Madame Kardas
