Schleicher Module for Laser Cutting and Laser Processing Expansion Module XSL Schleicher PLC / CNC Schleicher XSL 4 V / 2 5V ital 0 V Dig – 1 g0 alo An The Schleicher XSL module is connected to the Schleicher PLC/CNC controller via intelligent Rack Mount. While the Schleicher PLC/CNC controller transmits the movement commands to the drives (motion of axes), the Schleicher XSL module – in co-operation with the Schleicher PLC/CNC controller – regulates the laser power through dedicated functions. With the development of the Schleicher XSL module co-joined with a Schleicher PLC/CNC controller, manufacturers of laser processing machines are now offered special and unique capabilities allowing for a dynamic laser control so as to obtain the highest quality in the finished product. Drivers and Motors Laser System What are the characteristics of the Schleicher XSL module? The Schleicher XSL module realizes switch on/off of the laser source with a precision of 1 microsecond, in correlation with the axis motion. The module, with an internal cycle of 20 nanoseconds, was developed with the intention of countering the communication time delay typical of laser system units. The high output resolution of 1 microsecond, aside of an extraordinary spatial and temporal precision, allows for release of accurately complex pulse trains at high frequency. Laser pulses are positioned with high precision even at full axis movement without interrupting it. What is the benefit - including unique features – of Schleicher XSL module? The new level of precision becomes particularly apparent when micro-crosspieces are made during laser-cutting and laser-drilling processes. While operators using conventional controllers have to accept considerable tolerances with respect to the positions and lengths of the crosspieces or the borehole distances, the high resolution offered by the Schleicher XSL module enables on and off switching with an accuracy unknown until now. Other benefits include: + + + + High granularity in cutting quality adjustment due to free definition of the laser pulses Safety feature to prevent laser overload (Duty Cycle Limitation) Highly enhanced quality of processed surfaces and cut edges Suitable for many beam sources (Rofin, IPG, Trumpf, …) In summary, the end user benefits of ultra-clean cut widths, unparalleled consistency in accuracy and speed resulting in highly decreased reject rates and unusually short processing times. Besides the classic fields of use such as laser welding, cutting or perforating, this technology now opens itself up to expanded applications such as Laser Additive Manufacturing, material refinement and surface finishing within the glass and ceramics industries, quality-optimized processing of composite materials or the creation and measurement of very fine structures. What are the functions the Schleicher XSL module enables? The Schleicher XSL module is equipped with fast outputs that are called “PSP” and “PWM” channel. Within the PSP output channel, 3 functions enable the special features on the Schleicher XSL module and are provided and activated/deactivated through Schleicher’s fast M - functions: + A. PSP (Position Synchronized Pulse) + B. PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) - dependent of path speed + C. Drilling Mode – independent of path speed Within the PWM output channel, 1 function is realized: static PWM. A. PSP: Position Synchronized Pulse About Schleicher PSP generates a high precision pulse train within its parameters. The control of the laser pulses is perfectly synchronized with the axis motion.Parameters are: “number of laser pulses” per mm, and “active pulse width.” The PSP software pre-calculates the correct timestamp and the position for the pulses output, in this manner obtaining equi-spaced pulses. laser pulse laser pulse duty cycle 30 % duty cycle 70 % short pause when moving quickly duty cycle 100 % Schleicher Electronic is a leading provider of automation solutions and the only controls provider owning a proprietary NC kernel catering to medium-sized companies for useof the controls in the manufacture of long pause when moving slowly machines and plants.
