WWAST Players participating in the Bataan Memorial Death March at
White Sands, NM on March 19, 2017
Dear Friends,
On March 19, for the second year in a row, several WWAST Players
will honored past Veterans by participating in the Bataan Memorial
Death March in White Sands, New Mexico. WWAST Players, Greg
Reynolds, Mike Brown, Cody Rice, and Tim Horton conquered the
challenging march of 26.2 miles trekking through the high desert
terrain of White Sands Missile Range in honor of the heroic service
members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II,
sacrificing their freedom, health and, in many cases, their very lives.
While there, they also got to meet some of the survivors of Bataan.
This was the second year in a row that Greg, Mike, and Tim
participated in the march with the WWAST. We hope to continue to be
able to send our players to this incredible event again next year.

A Message from Our Fans
"Bataan Death March is exactly what it sounds like. This is part of our
WWII history. When our US military were captured off the coast of the
Philippines, they had no idea what the future held. The Imperial
Japanese Army forced them to march 62 miles in horrid conditions to
the POW camp. Tens of thousands died on that long march. The
struggles that pursued were just extraordinary. An event in their honor,
held for several decades now, called the Bataan Memorial Death
March takes place at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
The 26 miles of grueling terrain in the NM desert is a small fraction of
the original 62 mile march that pays tribute and honor to both those
who passed and those that survived the Bataan Death March. This
year marks the 75th anniversary of the Bataan Death March. I am
honored and humbled to participate in this milestone BDM, one of the
top 5 most challenging marathons in the country for a second time. To
have participated with some of my teammates from WWAST makes it
even more notable. Missing a limb or limbs is tough, playing softball
as an amputee is tougher, but to endure the mental, physical, and
emotional challenges of this event to honor our military history is
unique. WWAST's motto is quite powerful here at this event, 'Life
unique. WWAST's motto is quite powerful here at this event, 'Life
Without A Limb Is Limitless.' Never forget the sacrifices and resilience
of these special survivors and those before them who didn't make it
home. God Bless America!"
