WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN SCHOOL...
Easter is nearly upon us and as another busy term draws to a close we
want to thank parents and families for their continuing support.
Recent Parents’ evening were well attended and the completed
surveys recognised the many good things going on a Hawes Side while
giving us clear areas to build on.
Many thanks to everyone who bought raffle tickets to support our
re development of the school library. We raised over £319 which
will be going towards new books.
Congratulations to our winner,
Addison Panetta, who took home an ipad mini courtesy of our sponsors
Comptech ICT.
Continuing on a literacy theme, a great big thank you to all those who
took part in the Readathon this term. We raised £441.10.
The School Choir raised £53.79 by singing at Asda on 10th March
2014 in aid of Sports Relief. Our Sports Relief Fun Run event raised
£205.45. Thank you to all who took part.
The boys’ football team had a tough match against our neighbours
Roseacre on 26th March. The game finished in a 2:2 draw
A huge thanks to our school PTFA, who have bought an Easter Egg for
every pupil in Foundation Stage.
Polite Notice: - Hawes Side Academy has a ‘No Smoking’ policy. Could
we remind parents not to smoke on school premises.
Table Tennis Champion George with
runners up Adam and Callum
Proud raffle winner Addison with
cheering classmates!
Well done to all the children in Years 5 and 6 who competed in this year ‘s Table
Tennis Championship. A high standard of skill was evident and a great sporting
attitude displayed. Throughout. Congratulations go to this year’s champion

Green Council Recycled Fashion Show
On Friday 2nd May 2014 the Hawes Side Academy Green Council will be hosting a fashion
show. If your child would like to enter they need to produce an outfit using recycled
materials and bring it in to wear during the afternoon. Perhaps they could make an outfit
out of newspaper or use a cardboard box to create a hat. The possibilities are endless!
There will be prizes for the most creative and eye catching outfit within each year group
and our panel of judges will also be choosing an overall winner. Year 5 are also designing
outfits for Mr Burgess, Mr Smith and Mr Glynn and they will be ‘modelling’ them during the
show.
This should be a fun and creative afternoon and we hope that lots of children support the
event and create an outfit.
On Friday 25th April 2014 we will also be holding a ‘wear something green’ non-uniform
day where we will be asking for a 50p donation per child to raise money to buy more
outdoor learning equipment and items for our Sensory garden. Your child can wear any
sensible non-uniform but if perhaps one part of their outfit could be green.
Thank you for supporting both events.

The group meets each term to discuss a range of school related matters. The turn out at the last
two meetings was very low which is a shame as the forum is an extremely valuable one.
next meeting of the group is Monday 19th May, everyone is free to attend!
