Group. At home in her Twin Cities, Minnesota metropolitan
area school district, Kim augments her classroom role with a
position as her school’s Dean of Students. Kim is founder and
coordinator of a highly-successful after-school program called
Students on Academic Rise (S. O. A. R.) developed to address
the achievement gap. Her first book, S. O. A. R: A Handbook
for Closing the Achievement Gap, is a manual for helping other
school districts replicate this program that transports students to
higher academic performance, self-awareness, self-esteem and
individual responsibility.

The Louisiana Middle School Association
will award a $1000 scholarship to one educator who wishes to enroll in continuing education classes to earn another degree
or certification in the field of education. Instruction to apply may be found at

The Louisiana Middle School Association has instituted a $1000.00 scholarship to be awarded each
year. Go online to www.lmsaonline.org to download a nomination form. Deadline to submit is February 8, 2016.
