Day 1: Layering and glazing techniques with Acrylics Masters of the past achieved luminous effects in coloration with thin transparent glazes. Learn how Acrylics can help a painter achieve this level of depth without the use of solvents or thinners. This first day will explore the use of Acrylic paint, mediums and gels in the process of building glazes. We’ll talk about value vs. color and techniques with watercolor-like washes and gain understanding of how to unify the surface of a painting. The participant will paint their choice of subject which can range from representational portraits, landscapes or still-lifes to glowing abstractions. Day 2: Traditional Color Theory to Modern Pigment Reality Building on day one, we will begin with essential information about both traditional and modern pigments and explore the applications of each. Many new organic pigments have been introduced into the artist’s palette in the last 20 years and offer an entirely new way to see color. We will make comparisons in appearance with traditional color and modern pigments. Participants will gain understanding of how to mix clean colors, how to glaze with transparency or translucency, which products build up textures, and the use of impasto techniques. Learn how and why each technique can affect the final appearance of color. Though Acrylics are the medium of study, the information can be applied to oil, watercolor, and other wet media. Acrylics allow you to adjust your painting methodology to suit your own personal goals and define your personal style. Breakthroughs in technology will allow the artist to control drying times and use acrylic paints and mediums to mimic effects and textures they are used to getting with traditional oil paint without the use of thinners or solvents. This workshop will highlight the new Golden product line called “Open” acrylics to paint in a traditional style. Levels: All. The Randall M.
