 What is My Purpose
SR-101 Lesson 1 Text
Quote: “Man finds it hard to get what he wants because he does not want the best;
God finds it hard to give because He would give the best and man will not take it .
(George MacDonald)
Everything God created was created with a destiny including animal and plant life
Nothing exists without a pre-destined life
Every human was created to live life with meaning and purpose and until you
discover your personal reason for living you will never be fulfilled
You will become frustrated
You will be tired
You will grumble and be disgruntled
You will be dissatisfied
There are many questions that we often hear others ask and ask ourselves that
speak to our search for meaning in life. Many other questions are asked but here
are five questions that require us to take a deep look at how we relate and function
in our life’s relationships and the roles that we play.
Acts 17:28-29 For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of
your own poets have said, “For we are also His offspring.” Therefore, since we are
the offspring of God we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver
or stone, something shaped by art and man’s developing
1 “Five questions of the human heart”
1. Who am I? - Is a question about my Identity
If we are not sure of our identity we often wear others’ identities including
celebrities, sports figures, preachers, leaders, friends, etc.
2. Where am I from? – Is a question about my Source.
This has nothing to do with ethnicity but our SOURCE of life. Our source of life
and value is not found in family of origin, from our past or our family history
but it comes from our SOURCE, which is GOD.
3. Why am I here? - Speaks to my Purpose.
Our life purpose has nothing to do with how we earn income, where we live,
the color of our skin, our nationality. These things are important but our
purpose has more to do with God’s purposes and out ability to represent
Him well.
4. What can I do? - Speaks to my Potential.
This has to do with your true ability, which is hidden in you
5. Where am I going? - Speaks to my Destiny.
This is the destiny that God has designed for your life. It’s the story of your life
that fits into the larger story of God’s creation
.
Three Major Hindrances that keep us from being secure in Love and
understanding our Identity, our Source, our Purpose, our Potential and
our Destiny
Genesis 3:10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden and I was afraid because
I was naked and I hid myself.”
1. FEAR – if you see me in my condition of sin you will reject me
2. SHAME – I am a Mistake, I am Flawed, I am Bad, I am Defective
3. CONTROL – I don’t want you to find out what I am really like so I’ll hide and keep
you from rejecting me and then I won’t get hurt and suffer pain/consequences
