Indoor Recreation / Environmental Facility Meeting
Tuesday - January 22
(check our website at havtwpparksandrec.com for the meeting location.)
The Park Board invites public input on the indoor facility proposed for the former hospital site. Last June the
Facility Consulting Team of Kimmel / Bogrette presented the construction and operating costs of various
options (No pool, 1 pool, 2 pools) of a community recreation / environmental building. (see page 6)
The Park Board has recommended to the Board of Commissioners that the net proceeds of the sale of the
hospital property (see previous page) be earmarked for community recreation facilities at the site and that the
process move forward in a timely manner. The Park Board believes this reflects the wishes of the community
expressed in surveys and public meetings; and is consistent with the sentiment expressed by the state in conveying the property to the township in 2002.
We hope to see you on January 22.

Maintaining A Sustainable Community Park
As part of our township-wide efforts to be more sensitive to our
watershed we will be implementing more environmentally
friendly park maintenance policies. Sustainable maintenance
consists of any practice that protects the park’s and community’s
natural resources while providing for visitor and staff safety and
recreational opportunities. Maintaining a sustainable community
park will be different from at traditional turf dominated park.
While less time could indeed be focused on mowing, more time
might be spent monitoring for invasive species and maintaining
soil nutrient conditions. A shift in the types of maintenance duties
may take staff and visitors some time to get used to, and may
require additional training and awareness campaigns.

Testimonial
Dear Mr. Denny, I wanted to say “Thank You” for all that you and your staff have done to make
our summer so wonderful. We recently moved into the Coopertown Neighborhood and have 3 small
children ages 6,4, and 3 years old...
Our Coopertown Neighbors were your greatest marketing tool. They spoke highly about your programs...
My two youngest had a fantastic time in Tot Lot. Jan Baffa and her assistants had great fun filled activities
planned every day and are the kind of nurturing people that anyone would love to have around their children...
My oldest son, Sean, had the great fortune of being a part of the playground program. He was a little hesitant
about going at first because he was one of the youngest there...but that all changed very quickly...He absolutely
loved the leaders of the program. They made him feel welcome and apart of every activity that he wanted to
participate in...
He was a kid in heaven!!!! The playground program was a flashback for myself to a similar program
that I grew up with called “ The Summer Recreation Program”. I would give anything to be a kid again.
Please forward on our thanks to everyone that made this possible.
