Revealing Self Portrait AP Studio Project Overview • Oftentimes, when one thinks of creating a self portrait, their end goal is to try to represent what the look like on the outside. While you are welcome to create a realistic self portrait, I challenge you to think outside the box and reveal more to us- the viewer- than just what you look like. • For example…. • • • • • Does it need to be realistic? Do you want it to be realistic? Can it be a PART of you that is important to you? What DO you NEED to SHOW to make it WORK? (ex. I am a dancer so I will show my feet) What ‘extra’s do I need to have in the work other than me- to make my personal meaning more effective? Reflection Questions TO CONSIDER BEFORE STARTING • What do you WANT to SHOW the Viewer? • What do you want to EXPRESS for YOURSELF? • What Medium/ Mediums Do you want to use? • Do you want to Create in: Dry/Wet/Mixed/found/Collage • What surface area do you want to create on: Newspaper/textured paper/ cardboard/ watercolor paper/ canvas • How about Color or BW or a combo • What about creating out of found objects? • What about creating in the style of your favorite artist? • What can ANGLE or POINT of VIEW say about the work? (Seriously Consider this) Regardless of the path you take, your final needs to…. 1. Have some part of your body represented in it 2. Be a reflection of who you are 3. Be created in a meaningful and expressive way, unique to you Next Class: Have a start to your project development In 2 Classes: Have project development completed and be prepared to start on your final Project Development Requirements: A 2 (or more) page spread showing idea development focusing on the idea of “A Revealing Self Portrait” • The pages should be full and… • 3 or more visual images of historical and/or contemporary artists that you admire their interpretation of the concept of Portraiture (self or other) • A breakdown of the emotional response and why you have that response of each image (media, mark making, setting, other objects, materials used etc) • A breakdown of what design concepts are being utilized within each image (contrast, color, angle, cropping, chiarcusco, etc) • Notes and reflections on how these works will influence your art making • The Reflection questions, and your thoughts/reaction to them, and HOW you will utilize these concepts into your visual conceptual idea of Revealing Self Portrait • Your brainstorm (visual and literal) list of how to complete a revealing self-portrait, along with questions as to what that means and how you want to incorporate that concept into your art- wirte, sketch, etcthere is no wrong way • IF you are creating in the style of another artist, I need to see SEVERAL images of their work • An initial concept of your project idea with preliminary sketches, initial conceptual development, and supplies and materials needed (2D wet, dry or mixed media) on recommended toned surface area See the following Variety of examples of Portraiture As always, I encourage images inspiration and references, but all individual work needs to be created by you and be unique to you. You man use these examples as an inspiration, but remember copyright. • http://media-cacheec0.pinimg.com/736x/ 06/6b/99/066b99872 4733b6ed8934100b2e 4b7d1.jpg • http://www.pinterest.com/pin/575053446139613751/ • http://www.pinterest.com/pin/535154368191985513/ • http://www.schimmelart.com/collection.htm • http://www.pinterest.com/pin/3 91320655092049685/ Rosa Parks Art- Be inspired • http://philinthecircle.com/Interpretation_number_1.html Portrait Artists for Reference- (Pg 1) Peter Campus, Davide Cantoni, Chuck Close, Susanna Coffey, Daniela Comani, Gohar Dashti, Robert De Niro Sr., Aron Demetz, Sussan Deyhim, Edwin Walter Dickinson, David Dixon, Marcel Duchamp, Anh Duong, Asher B.
